James Edward Mote, 95, retired clergy member of the Great Plains Annual Conference died Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, at Bethany Home in Minden, Nebraska.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Wilcox United Methodist Church, 200 W. Sapp St., Wilcox, NE with the Rev. Phillip Clay officiating and Masonic Rites by Jachin Lodge 146 AF&AM. Burial will be at Wilcox Cemetery with military honors by the Wilcox/Hildreth American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars in conjunction with the U.S. Army Military Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, NE with the family present from 6-7:30 p.m.
James was born May 23, 1919, in El Cajon, Calif., the fifth of seven children born to John Asa and Lura May (Barnhill) Mote. James received his education at Grossmont (Calif.) High School and graduated with the class of 1939. He then pursued higher education at San Dimas, Calif., for his first two years of college before he served in World War II. He was inducted into the U.S. Army Air Corps on Jan. 21, 1942, and served with the 773rd Bomb Squadron in the European African Theater until his honorable discharge on Oct. 2, 1945.
Following his service, James returned to college at the California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. James then pursued his calling to ministry and attended seminary at the Iliff School of Theology in Denver and later received his master’s degree of divinity.
He was appointed to serve the Methodist Church in Tryon, NE. While serving this church, he met Dorothy Loella Tupper, whom he would later marry on Sept. 6, 1964, at the Community Methodist Church in Tryon, NE. The couple made their home in Overton, NE where Jim served the United Methodist Church. Dorothy supported Jim’s ministry and enjoyed life as a pastor’s wife.
From 1972 to 1976, they served in Stratton and then were appointed to the Laurel and Logan Center churches in Nebraska. In 1981, they ministered in the Orchard and Royal churches until they retired in 1985 and moved to Wilcox, NE. Following retirement, Jim continued to serve his Lord by filling the pulpit at Mascot Bethel Church in Harlan County for several years.
On Nov. 2, 2002, Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy. In 2007, Jim began to make his home at Bethany Home in Minden, NE. In recent years, Jim enjoyed the company of his special friend, Margaret Sigurdson.
He leaves to mourn his passing his sister, Lura Stoakes and her husband, Clair, of Winside, NE; sister-in-law, Maxine Aspegren of Holdrege, NE; special friend, Margaret Sigurdson of Minden, NE; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Great Plains Conference
Alvina A. Shaw, 89, widow of the Rev. Elmer Shaw, clergy member of the Great Plains Annual Conference passed away February 8, 2015. Born June 23, 1925 on a farm a mile and a half north of Emerald, NE the youngest of five children, to August and Sophia (Busboom) Deinert. She went to school at District #118 in Emerald and graduated from Malcolm High School in 1944. She worked at Woodmen Accident, in Lincoln, NE for 26 years.
Survivors are son, Howard Shaw and daughter, Ramona Shaw, both of Lincoln, NE. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer in 2006, parents; brother, Louis Deinert, sisters, Dora Ninneman, Hulda Naderhoff and Arvilla Ficken.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, February 12, Roper and Sons Chapel, 4300 'O' St., Lincoln, NE. Visitation: 2-8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday.
