Trinity United Methodist Church of Gainesville, Florida, United States "Tuesday Word" for Tuesday, 10 February 2015

Trinity United Methodist Church of Gainesville, Florida, United States "Tuesday Word" for Tuesday, 10 February 2015
Worship: Sundays @ 8:15 am, 9:40 am, 11:00 am | Wednesdays @ 6:35 pm | Fridays @ 7:00 pm
Dear Friends,
Even though I was too sick to get to church this past Sunday (24 hour bug), I was still so very, very proud of all of you - for helping create our amazing, fully accessible playground. If you haven't seen the TV 20 News clip, here it is. And special thanks to Jenn Garrett; it was her vision and dream that led to this reality; and also to the hundreds of people who contributed.
This Sunday we conclude our sermon series on the Wesley brothers; I'll be preaching on the message of several of their/our most beloved hymns. And, if you would like to see the movie on John Wesley's life, we're showing it Sunday night at 6:00 in Rm 232. Or you can get it on loan from our church's bookstore. By the way, this Saturday is 2/14, Valentine's Day, and you know, Methodists really ought to be the best at expressing love, because Wesley is the biggest advocate of the God of Infinite Love. Happy Valentine's Day!
Also, this Sunday, our Mission Box is for the Methodist Seminary in Moscow. For the past two years, Trinity has been supporting the Academic Dean, and she - Olga K - will be here this Sunday to speak for the Mission Box. She is a remarkable person; one of my former students when I taught there, and actually the one I recommended to fill the new Dean position. She has a remarkable story from atheism to deep Christian faith and you can read about it here.
We are still accepting Lenten Devotionals, if you would like to be included, please send them to Jim Cook.
I'm going to try to keep you better informed this year about our finances at Trinity. For January:
Income: $192,039
Expenses: $202,782
Net Loss: $10,743
I'm doing this because I sense that we didn't do a very good job of helping folks understand once we paid off the mortgage, because, for some reason, many people actually decreased their pledge for 2015 - even though the Finance Committee and Church Council voted to increase the budget by $300,000 - so that we could do more local mission and also take care of the marvelous facilities we have. This is a big concern, and Finance is figuring out ways to help make it better; please keep our finances in your prayers, as we all want to increase our local mission involvement and we also want to keep our buildings in good repair. Thanks.
God bless, Dan
