YOUTH NEWS
Come to our “DRY” Car Wash
A dry car wash? What is that? California is in the middle of a horrible drought, so many of us wash our cars at convenient drive-through facilities. But what about the windows and the interiors of our cars? If you’re like me, then the inside is not quite so clean as the outside. The solution is to come to the Youth Group “Dry” Car Wash where we will clean your windows, vacuum the floors, and wipe down the interiors. We’ll be cleaning during all three services on May 21 and May 22. Don’t miss out! (P.S. If you have a cordless carvac you can loan out temporarily, that would be extremely helpful.) For more information, contact Lorrie Frost: youthlorrie@gmail.com.
Youth Treks Flowers. Trees. Waterfalls. Sky.
There is so much to see in this amazing world that God has given us. The youth are headed on another trek to experience their faith in the natural world. This time we will be hiking in the Penasquitos Preserve on Sunday, May 29th, 3:00-6:00. All youth, friends, family, and even dogs can meet us in the back parking lot at Canyonside Community Park on Black Mountain Road. This will take the place of our normal UMYF program for that afternoon. If you have any questions, contact Lorrie Frost: youthlorrie@gmail.com.

SAVE THE DATE
All youth and youth families are invited to a youth council meeting on June 5th, 5:00-6:00. Come help make decisions about the direction of the youth program and summertime activities.

CAVEQUEST VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
Following Jesus the Light of the World! June 20-24, 9am - Noon Vacation Bible School is a week-long day camp from 9am-Noon for children ages 3 years old through those entering 6th grade this coming school year. The week is filled with crafts, music, games, snacks, new friends and Bible lessons. VBS is open to children of the community, regardless of whether they attend Hope UMC or Hope Christian Preschool — all are welcome! Tad’s Preschool Pool, CaveQuest VBS for 3- & 4-year-olds is for children born between January 1, 2012-September 30, 2012. Children in Tad’s Preschool Pool must have completed one year of preschool, be completely toilet-trained, and be fluent in speaking and understanding English. Children born before January 1, 2012 or who are entering Kindergarten, Transitional Kindergarten, or Junior Kindergarten in the upcoming 2016-17 school year this fall will be placed with the Elementary students. COST: $45 for one child; $70 for two children from the same family; $95 for three or more children from the same family. Download a registration form from the church website (www.HopeUMC.com) or pick one up in the Hope Church office Monday-Friday, 9am-4pm. Return your Registration form with a check made payable to Hope UMC to the Church office. Registration opens Monday, May 2 and will close when we are full or at 4pm on Monday, June 6, whichever comes first. Last year we had to turn people away because we filled up, so don't delay! VBS Volunteers Even if you’re too old to attend VBS, you can still be part of the fun! We need youth (entering 7th grade and older) and adult volunteers to serve as Crew Leaders, Morning Sign-In Greeters, Station Helpers, and Church Decorators. Contact Carrie in the office: 858.485.5840, x103 for more information about any of these opportunities. VBS Set Builders Needed Did you know that we share our VBS set with several other United Methodist Churches in the area? That means that they help paint and embellish it once we’ve put it together. Our own Kirk Rummel does a terrific job of designing and constructing our VBS set each year, but he needs some help! If you can spare a few hours to help frame up our set, please call Carrie in the office (858.485.5840, x103) and she will put you in touch with Kirk so you can set up a time that fits your schedule.

MISSIONS CORNER Fiesta!
Fabulous! Fun! Fantastic! “Muchas Gracias” to all who ate, donated, and helped with our Fiesta lunch on “Uno de Mayo”. The 75 or so people who attended enjoyed a wonderful, authentic Mexican meal and the kids had a great time with the piƱata. All the food was donated so the proceeds (close to $1000) will go entirely to Children of Promise Orphanage in Tijuana, which Hope has supported for many years. The orphanage provides a safe haven, food, education and job training to approximately 50 children, many of

FINDING OUR FRIENDS WHO CANNOT ATTEND
Dear church family, as the pastor of visitation I need your help. I have been doing extensive visits at care facilities like Casa, Remington, Gateway, and the Belmont but I find myself having very minimal home visits. I know in a church community our size we have friends who still live in their homes but are unable to attend worship. If you know of an individual who is home bound that would benefit from pastoral visitation please email me at revdavis@hopeumc.com.
It is my desire to make sure everyone still has a connection to the worship community. — Pastor M. Andrew Davis Associate Pastor Hope United Methodist Church whom were formerly living on the streets. It is also the recipient of the May special offering. At the end of May, Hope member Lynn Riffle will be traveling to Ecuador to help earthquake victims and people in rural areas. The lead organization is “Servants in Faith and Technology” (SIFAT), which was started by United Methodists in the 1970’s. We will be collecting donations of over the counter pain medications (such as aspirin, ibuprofen, Tylenol) and children’s vitamins for Lynn to take with her. Please put your donations in the big plastic bin next to the food cart. The last Sunday to donate is May 22.
In June we will be collecting job interview clothing for people in job training programs at Metro Community Ministries. Dress shirts, belts, trousers, men’s and women’s shoes, women’s skirts, dressy slacks, blouses, dresses, etc. are especially needed, so keep them in mind as you do your “Spring Cleaning.” Another arm of Metro is the Good Neighbor Center in Chollas View. Donations to the food cart are taken there as well as to Interfaith Community Services in Escondido. Interfaith just opened a year-round emergency shelter for homeless people, and provides meals, counseling, etc. to our neighbors in need here in North County. Finally, thanks for the warm welcome you gave to Pastor Brian Diggs from UMCOR West in Salt Lake City when he was at Hope a few weekends ago. It was great to hear about the volunteer work they do—everything from preparing disaster relief kits to school kits to layette kits for newborns. Their efforts help people in the U.S. and around the world. For more information on UMCOR or joining our next team in the spring of 2017, contact Cindy Gleason. Because of Memorial Day, our next Outreach/Missions Com. meeting will be on Monday, May 23, 7 PM. Come join us! — Terry and Larry Sieck, co-chr. Outreach/Missions Committee
