In God Unbound, Elaine Heath writes, “Contemplative leaders show up to self, others, and God. They pay attention to what is going on within themselves as well as within and beyond their congregations. These leaders notice what God is doing in their own lives and outwardly in the congregation, as well as in the community beyond the walls of the church.”
What is God doing?
1. SELF: Our inner work is never finished. What spiritual practices keep you connected with God? Which spiritual networks or friends keep you grounded? How are you paying attention to God?
2. CONGREGATION: What is the narrative of your congregation? How did it get started? What changes has it experienced? What’s next?
3. COMMUNITY: Where have you gone in the past month to observe what God is doing beyond the walls of the church? What did you observe there? What did God teach you? If you have not intentionally looked beyond the walls of the church, consider giving 15 minutes to do an internet search to see what God might help you learn or discover.
