Weekly eNote from Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday, October 28, 2016 from The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown  of Kansas City, Missouri, United States
Greetings RezDowntowners,
I hope this message finds you doing well. What an amazing week it has been in Kansas City. I just love this time a year. Wendy and I managed to take Monday off and finally had a chance to soak in some Fall activities around KC with Freddy…after carving pumpkins, drinking cider and eating my fair share of donuts, I cannot believe Halloween is already here! With that in mind, this weekend is a big weekend in the life of the church, as it prepares us for All Saints Day (November 1st), a day when we remember the people who have gone before us, people whose lives have profoundly impacted who we are today! As a way of celebrating this weekend we’ll be taking a deep look at the idea of legacy. We’ll remember the people God has used to form and shape us, but we’ll also consider how God is calling us to change the world and the kind of legacy we want to leave with the ones we love the most. You won’t want to miss this weekend as we’ll be sharing some powerful stories of transformation and sacrificial love. You also won’t want to miss this weekend because it is shaping up to be a great celebration weekend.
On Sunday morning after all of our worship services we’re also hosting a Celebratory Pancake and sausage breakfast. In addition to pancakes and sausage, we're excited to share that The Roasterie will be serving some of their amazing coffee and as Kelly mentioned last weekend, we’ll also have some Tang(which she seems to be pretty excited about). Sunday morning will be a great way to connect with others from the community and enjoy what is shaping up to be a beautiful Sunday in KC. So, invite friends and come hungry. Also, at our morning services the Young Adult Choir from Centennial United Methodist Church will be leading us, and I’m so excited to worship with them.
Finally, last weekend we celebrated Commitment Weekend as we concluded each worship service by inviting our members to bring forward their annual commitment cards. This years theme was “stepping up” and in the event that you weren’t able to be in worship last weekend, I’d love for you to turn in your commitment card this weekend in worship. We’re inviting everyone to step up in their commitments in giving, growing, worshiping, serving and sharing. In your giving I’m hoping that everybody will make a commitment this year and for our regular gifts, I’d love for you to take a step up toward the biblical tithe. Returning a commitment card is not primarily about the church, but it’s an expression of our faith in and gratitude to God. It is an act of worship of God and a means of living out the Good Life. We’ll have commitment cards available in the bulletin again this weekend and we’ll also be giving away the 2017 commemorative coffee mug to all who return their commitment cards, and for those who forgot to pick theirs up last week.
If you are not going to be physically present in worship, you can go online and fill out your commitment card by clicking here (be sure to select 'Resurrection Downtown').
I can’t wait to see you this weekend and in the meantime, below you ‘ll find a variety of ways to connect to the mission of this church:

Adult Sunday School Class: The Gift of Being Yourself. This 3-week study, which begin, November 6 at 10:30am, explores your Christian identity. There cannot be deep knowledge of God without deep knowledge of ones' self. We can discover our true self that emerges from our uniqueness in Christ and then stop hiding behind our false selves. Neither knowing God nor knowing ourselves can progress very far unless it begins with a knowledge of how deeply we are loved by God. Join us as we explore “The Gift of Being Yourself” The Sacred Call to Self-Discovery by David G. Benner. The book can be ordered at your favorite site or store or on Amazon. The class will be located at 1508 Grand, if childcare is needed, please check them into KiDSCOR at 1522 McGee. For more information, contact Dr. Marilyn Hutchinson at mhutchinsonpsych@aol.com or David Sisney at David@davidsisney.com.
Coffee With the Pastors, Sunday, November 6. Do you consider Resurrection Downtown your church home? Have you considered membership and want to know more about what that means? Then join us at 1:30 pm at 1522 McGee. Hear about the history of the church, what it means to be a Methodist and the expectations for becoming a Resurrection member. There is no need to register unless you require childcare. For more information or to register for childcare, go to cor.org/downtown/cwp. For questions, contact Shannon.Endicott@cor.org.
