Hello Resurrection Blue Springs!
Last week at this time we were headed to the hospital to welcome our new grandson into the world. Maxwell Joseph Arndt was born at 12:37 pm on St. Patricks day weighing 8 pounds 15 ounces. He is beautiful and if you don't believe me you can take a look at my facebook page! This brings our grandchild count to three. We are so blessed to have these little ones in our lives.
With our grandchildren's births come dreams for them and a desire to make this world a better place for them, just as it did when our children came into this world. For Bill and I, this means that, in their lives, they would experience a taste of God's kingdom living, of being loved and valued and part of a community with rich and deep relationships, and that our world would be moving toward a restoration of the earth that brings us closer to that first garden we've been talking about and not further from it.
This weekend in worship we’ll talk about how visions and dreams like these give us hope for the future and become the driving force behind our actions. This Sunday we continue our In the Garden series. I'll be preaching live as we look at the Old Testament understanding of the Promised Land and how this vision of a land flowing with milk and honey sustained and led God's people forward. We'll also imagine what this promised land is for us personally and for our community. We'll ask questions about what it might look like to bring the Kingdom of Heaven here on earth. I'll also share with you a partnership we're planning to engage in that will hopefully make life easier for a group of vulnerable children and tell you how you can take a role in this kingdom vision.
I also invite you to keep our Leawood campus in your prayers this weekend as they move into their new space and consecrate it for the Lord's work. It's an exciting time as it leads to a fruition of one dream and a springboard for many more to come. I hope you'll invite a friend and join us in worship on Sunday.
Make sure to take a look below at the upcoming ways to get connected in the life of our congregation.
  • Pizza with Pastor Penny – Do you consider Resurrection Blue Springs your church home? Have you considered membership and want to know more about what that means? Then join us this Sunday at 12:15 pm for pizza with the Pastor. Hear about the history of the church, what it means to be a Methodist and the expectations for becoming a Resurrection member. After a break, those ready to take the next step will be invited to a brief joining ceremony. Sign up online here or at Guest Services on Sunday.
  • Take a Guided Tour - Are you interested in seeing the new sanctuary and stained glass installation on our Leawood campus? Guided tours are available March 27 – April 3. Sign up at cor.org/tourRSVP.
  • Provide a meal - Sometimes life gets in the way with illness or injury, hospitalization or a new baby and a few meals would make all the difference for someone in our church family. Let us know if you'd like to join the team that helps to step in and fill that need. Sign up at Guest Services on Sunday or email Heather.Sooley@cor.org
  • Honor a loved one this Easter by donating to our Easter "garden" display. Dedications will appear online and in Pastor Penny’s Holy Week enote. You may pick up an Easter Lily following the 11:15 am Easter Worship Service. Dedication order forms available in the attendance notebooks or at Guest Services on Sunday.
  • Waypoint Men’s Group – “Gather” online each week to navigate your life’s journey using the GPS, Resurrection’s Grow. Pray. Study. Guide – all from the comfort of wherever you are! Wednesdays from 8:30-9:30 pm via ZOOM app. Contact Mike Ash for more information. Register online here
  • Mark Your Calendars for the Easter Party! Saturday, April 8 , 10-11:30 am. Rain or Shine activities include Egg Hunt, Easter Bunny, Petting Zoo, Games, Crafts and fun for the whole family! We are currently collecting party favors and individually wrapped candy (small enough to fit in a plastic egg) for our Easter Party. You can place these in the collection barrel through April 2. We could also use some Easter party volunteers to help welcome our community to the celebration. Sign up at Guest services and get those bunny ears out so that you're ready to join us Saturday, April 8 for the fun and fellowship as we celebrate together.
  • Sign up now to Serve Easter Sunday April 16 Services at 8, 9:30 and 11:15 am. We will welcome many firsttime visitors and need Usher/Greeters, Hospitality and Parking Lot Attendants. Sign up at Guest Services or contact Stephanie.Weigel@cor.org to volunteer.
Mark your calendars with these dates and plan to join us for Holy Week at Resurrection.
