Weekly eNote from Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday. March 24, 2017 from The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown in Kansas City, Missouri, United States

Greetings RezDowntowners!
I am grateful to be writing you today as we anticipate another great weekend in Kansas City! I hope this message finds you doing well. This weekend in worship we’ll be continuing our look In the Garden. We’ll be taking a deep look at the Old Testament accounts of the Promised Land as being a place meant to resemble or replicate paradise. During worship I’ll be inviting you to articulate your vision of the Promised Land. What does it look like? How do you imagine it? Have you ever experienced a glimpse of it here on earth? My hope is that we, together, as a community of faith in the heart of the city will work to share this vision with the world around us in order that we might make it a reality here on earth, just as it is in heaven! Please join us in worship, and please also know that I’ll be preaching live this weekend at all of our worship services! I can’t wait to see you.
Also, this week has been a big week in the life of our church from a ministry standpoint. On Tuesday night we had another great turnout at our Ash and Cinder Lenten Worship Series with over 80 people in attendance. It was a great evening and a wonderful way to worship and experience God’s presence in the middle of the week. I’d love for you to join us this coming Tuesday as we continue this series through Lent. Finally, for all you dads out there, tomorrow morning at 11am at 1522 McGee, we’re be launching a new Dad’s group called, “Go, Dads, Go!” Join Freddy and I, and a whole bunch of RezDT Dads and their kids as we seek to grow closer to God and each other through this once a month group! You’ll find more information about that as well as several other opportunities to get connected below! You'll even find a link to download new music from our very own David Simmons, who is releasing his second EP of acoustic music written during his time at Resurrection Downtown. Be sure to check it out.
  • Go Dads Go! Feeling pulled in a hundred different directions? Seeking time with your kids and a chance to form friendships? Does this sound like a bad dating profile? It’s not! This is a chance to be a part of a group of dads, who want to have both time to be present with their kids and have the opportunity to share the joys, challenges and fears of being a dad. Join Pastor Scott & Matt Bisel, on March 25th, Saturday from 9-11am, at the McGee building, for our first 4th Saturday gathering where we will plan and scheme what community looks like for dads! (Note: this will coincide with the RezMoms meeting at the same time, same place, same childcare!) To register for childcare, go to cor.org/downtown/getconnected. For questions, contact Clay Smith at CBSmith@lockton.com
  • Coffee With the Pastors – Do you consider Resurrection Downtown your church home? Have you considered membership and want to know more about what that means? Then join us Sunday, April 2, at 1:30 pm at 1522 McGee. Hear about the history of the church, what it means to be a Methodist and the expectations for becoming a Resurrection member. No need to register unless you require childcare. For more information or to register for childcare, go to cor.org/downtown/coffee. For questions, contact Shannon.Endicott@cor.org.

We’ll have baskets of fun with petting zoo animals, cookie decorating, bounce houses, bubbles, temporary tattoos, games, crafts and many more fun family activities including a big egg hunt and special visit by the Easter Bunny! Hop on out to the Liberty Memorial to join in the fun!
  • RezMen’s Good Friday Breakfast at Liberty Memorial – Join us for Good Friday Sunrise Breakfast at 6:15 am, Friday, April 14th to enjoy an egg scramble breakfast by outdoor extraordinaire Dan Stark and his team of sous chefs. Full-caffeinated hot coffee will flow freely as we watch God’s light pierce the darkness over our city. Pastors Scott & Patrick will say a few words of devotion aimed at the season. Bring a lawn chair and your coffee cup. RSVP by Tuesday, April 11, via email at https://rez.wufoo.com/forms/rez-dt-rezmen-good-friday-breakfast/ Donations would be welcome but not expected! See you on the hill (near south entrance of Liberty Memorial)!
  • NEW MUSIC: “Going Nowhere” EP by David Simmons. One of our incredible volunteer worship leaders and songwriters, David Simmons, is releasing his second solo album today! The "Going Nowhere EP" is a collection of 7 acoustic recordings written during his time at Resurrection Downtown. You can download it at www.gloryrevivalmusic.com, iTunes, or stream on Spotify and Apple Music. Listen, share and enjoy as we celebrate this amazing recording!
  • Lenten Study: From Ash & Cinder. Continues this Tuesday, March 21, at 6:30pm at 1522 McGee, Resurrection Downtown will begin a four-week Lenten study with Pastor Scott Chrostek and the music of Glory Revival. Through the art of worship and Scriptural teaching we will go deep into the practice of lament. During this time of year we all feel a tension. We see life springing up all around us; yet we struggle with heartache and injustice. Thankfully we are not alone. In the practice of lament, we learn how to hold the brokenness of the world before God who is with us and invites us into bringing new life out of the ash and cinder. Childcare is available with registration. Registration and information found at cor.org/downtown/getconnected
  • Travel to the Holy Land with Pastor Scott. On November 8-17 Pastor Scott will lead a spiritual journey of a lifetime to the Holy Land. On this pilgrimage you’ll have a chance to retrace the life and walk in the footsteps of Jesus Christ. You’ll have a chance to visit the cities and sites we read about in the Bible. It is something we recommend everybody experiences if at all possible. For more information visit Connection Point this weekend to pick up an informational brochure before or after worship. To register or for more info, visit cor.org/downtown/events.
I am so thankful to buidling Christian community with you here in Kansas City. It is a privilege to be planting resurrection downtown with you with the hopes of transforming the heart of our city for generations to come! Have a great Friday and I'll see you this weekend in worship!
Many blessings and God's Peace,
Scott
