Here are the highlights from this week's news in family caregiving:
Next Avenue | March 17, 2017
"As of this writing, the policy battle over repealing and replacing The Affordable Care Act (ACA) continues in Congress. The issue that gets the most coverage at the moment is how big the loss of health insurance coverage for individuals will be under the proposed Republican sponsored American Health Care Act (AHCA). Also included in the repeal bill are dramatic changes to Medicaid, which currently provides community long-term services and supports to disable and older aduls and acts as a safety new for all of us in the future."
Pew Research Center | March 23, 2017
"A growing share of working parents and an aging population have put pressure on more American workers as they balance family caregiving responsibilities and work obligations. Amid these changes, the issue of paid family and medical leave has captured the attention of policymakers and advocates across the political and ideological spectrum."
The Huffington Post | March 23, 2017
"Family caregivers of all types are increasingly expected to manage complex medical tasks (e.g., giving injections, managing medications, or providing wound care) with little or no training. You can imagine how this lack of training and support adds an even higher level of stress for caregivers of people with dementia, and puts the person with dementia at real risk of harm or nursing home placement. For the millions of families caring for someone with dementia, finding the support they need is like digging for buried treasure."
NPR | March 21, 2017
"Republican House leaders are making last-minute changes to their health care proposal in a bid to woo more conservatives ahead of a vote scheduled for Thursday. One of those changes would let states impose work requirements on some Medicaid recipients."
