John Seaman Passes Away
John Seaman Passes Away

Grand Ledge, Michigan:
John Seaman, superintendent of the Michigan District and a former Church of the Nazarene missionary, passed away 19 March. He was 69.
“It is with great sadness I tell you that Sunday night around 6:15, our beloved friend and leader, Dr. John Seaman, transitioned to eternity,” wrote Interim Michigan District Superintendent Glen Gardner. “I like to think that Dr. Seaman joined the heavenly choir and is singing and laughing and rejoicing.”
Seaman underwent surgery for a malignant brain tumor in August and had been receiving chemotherapy treatment. He was moved to a hospice facility 11 March.
“John was a personal friend, a mentor, and one of the most passionate and committed churchmen that I had the privilege to have known,” said Gustavo Crocker, general superintendent in jurisdiction. “There are literally thousands of lives in many countries that have been touched by such a Christlike servant. Mine is one of them. Dr. Seaman will be greatly missed.”
Seaman and his wife, Linda, began serving as missionaries in 1976, first in Martinique. In 1987, they were reassigned to Côte d’Ivoire to pioneer the church’s work in West Africa. After leaving the mission field in 2003, John was elected superintendent of the Michigan District.
John served as a delegate to the 1989, 1993, 1997, 2005, and 2009 general assemblies. In 2013, he became a member of the Church of the Nazarene’s General Board, serving on the Global Mission Committee.
He held a Bachelor of Arts from Olivet Nazarene College (now University) and a Master of Arts and Master of Religious Education from Nazarene Theological Seminary.
In addition to Linda, John is survived by their three children: Kendra, Lauren, and Ketly.
A memorial service will be held in April. More information will be posted as it is available.
Prayer is requested for the Seaman and Michigan District families.

Church Members in Papua New Guinea Flee from Aftermath of Natural Disasters- Please Pray!
Papua New Guinea:
In January 2017, a 7.9- magnitude earthquake struck Bougainville island in Papua New Guinea.

Almost two months later, residents in Bougainville island continue to experience the aftereffects of the earthquake. Rumba Church of the Nazarene, consisting of the pastor and 400 members, have already evacuated the area because of earthquake and continued rain. A landslide in the mountains caused rocks and trees to roll through the village; thankfully no one was hurt.
God has truly taken care of Rumba Church. They are moving to a new place in Karnau with plans to re-settle there. Please include Rumba Church in your prayers. May the Lord keep them safe, and may the pastor and church members remain strong in their faith;[Submitted by: Gabriel Kaulo]

NYI Leader in PNG Injured in Attempted Car Jacking *** New Update!!!

NYI Leader in PNG Injured in Attempted Car Jacking – Prayer Needed ***New Update

Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea: Prayer has been requested for an NYI Leader, Allen Haunje, as he is recovering in the hospital from wounds received from robbers in an attempted car jacking. We praise the Lord that he was taken directly to a hospital where he underwent a 5 hour surgery to repair the damage. Please pray not only for physical healing, but emotional healing as well.
Melanesia South Pacific NYI Coordinator Daniel Latu writes:
“I am calling on all youth to stand with us in praying continuously for God’s complete healing over Allan’s life, that the peace of God that surpasses all understanding would rest on Allan, his wife, children and family and forgiveness on those who wronged him. In essence we’re believing God for a setup in this setback. Genesis 50:20 – You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.”
***Update 3 March 2017***
Allen’s mother sent in an update that they had to amputate his left leg below the knee. She continues to give God praise for the strength to accept this and thanks everyone for the continued prayers for her son and family. She went on to quote Rom 8:28 All things work for good to those that love you and that are called according to his purpose . Saying may God’s will be done.
Please keep Allen and his whole family in your prayers as he makes the necessary adjustments mentally as well as physically. That his heart would remain soft and not become hardened.
***Update 17 March 2017***
From his hospital bed Allen, known as Wirewire by his friends and family, gives this update.
“I went in for operation yesterday to do Close up on my wounds. Thats fine now and hopefully will go home next week. I am eating well and sleeping except the pain. Thanks for the prayers.”

Church in Southeast Asia Needs our Prayers!

Church in Southeast Asia Needs our Prayers!
Southeast Asia:
One of our churches in Southeast Asia is being challenged and is in need of our prayers!
Two years ago, a house church was planted and several people in the area have come to faith. However, there are some people in the community that are making things difficult for the believers to worship . Relatives of the house owner are opposed to holding church services in the house. They are threatening to disrupt and drive the believers away if they continue to try and hold a worship service in the house again!
Please pray for peace in the community and for the people in that area who have followed Christ’s call. Also pray for the young pastor leading this house church. That their faith in the Lord would be strengthened as they continue to worship and declare their love for Christ despite these difficult circumstances.

A Golden Celebration for Kudjip Nazarene Hospital!
Papua New Guinea: Half a century ago, the Church of the Nazarene planted a church in Kudjip, which is located in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea, through the work of Wanda and Sydney Knox. This also marked the start of medical work in the area.
From the humble beginnings of a health center that also served as a nursing school with only a handful of graduates, the medical ministry eventually blossomed into Kudjip Nazarene Hospital and Nazarene Health Ministries, a community-based health care, spreading God's love in Kudjip and throughout six more provinces in the Highlands!
Last week, the community celebrated the 50th anniversary of Kudjip Nazarene Hospital and Nazarene Health Ministries. Inspiring testimonies were heard from some of the first missionaries, nursing graduates and workers at the hospital. Hearts were stirred as they shared their desire to share and show God's love through medical work.
It was a momentous event for Kudjip Nazarene Hospital! We continue to pray that God will bless them with many more years of touching lives and spreading Christ's love through medical ministry!
Congratulations to Kudjip Nazarene Hospital! Follow the link to find out what happened during the celebration, and to see more photos!

Last week, the community celebrated the 50th anniversary of Kudjip Nazarene Hospital and Nazarene Health Ministries. Inspiring testimonies were heard from some of the first missionaries, nursing graduates and workers at the hospital. Hearts were stirred as they shared their desire to share and show God’s love through medical work.
District Superintendent (DS) Andrew Akus spoke and reminded those present that no matter what they do and where they go, the most important thing is to have at least one person come to faith and know Jesus. This has always been the focus of the hospital, and because of this, thousands of men and women heard of Christ and become followers through the years.
The celebration was also blessed with words from Papa Yapo, who has been serving the hospital with his wife for over 40 years, doing different sorts of jobs- ambulance and tractor driver, maintenance man, cleaner- all for the glory of God. Sr. Kini, one of the first graduates of the Nursing College, told her journey of becoming a nurse and how thankful she was for the opportunity to learn and share Christ’s love.

Global Missions Director Dr. Verne Ward was also present during the event. He shared his story of how he and his wife served in Dusin and shared God’s love with many different tribes who didn’t know much about Jesus, and how many came to Jesus as a result. He encouraged everyone to continue following Jesus, and to obey when He calls, even if it means going out of our comfort zone. God’s desire is for His people to know Him and to use them to fulfill that mission.
Looking back, the church that was originally started by the Knoxes, has now grown to 13 organized Districts with hundreds and hundreds of churches. The hospital itself has started 30 churches through the ministry of the Chaplains. The healing has not been just physical, but spiritual as well- something that will last far longer.

I have known this hospital and its ministry for the past 10 years, but I feel that its accomplishments have exceeded the number of years I have known the ministry. Listening to the different testimonies, I felt even more encouraged with my chosen ministry, and how I am part of something so much bigger.
I feel truly blessed for the opportunity to be a part of Kudjip Nazarene Hospital, and how it continues to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Not one person who has been a part of this ministry over the past 50 years could have done it on their own. All of us continue to thank God for the people that He has called and ask for more to answer their call to missions to continue his kingdom work.[Submitted by: Erin Meier]

Called to Ministry? Start here.
Christianity Today: When did you know you were called to ministry?
Maybe it was one of those lightning-bolt moments that changed the way you see yourself. Or maybe it came to you through a slow building of conviction you can no longer ignore. Perhaps it was through a life-changing conversation or a quiet nudge in a corner of your mind. Maybe it's simply that you experience tremendous joy when you serve in the church and you want to find more where that came from. Whatever brought you to this point, you're convinced you have a calling to serve God and the church in ministry.
So now what?
Responding to your call to ministry is more than just doing something; first and foremost you have to know the kind of person God has called you to be.

NMI Highlight - Easter Offering for WEF
Just as the earliest Christians, "pooled their resources so that each person's need was met," (Acts 2:45, The Message) believers today eagerly share what they have, to bring new members into God's family.
The Church of the Nazarene, in 1923, recognized that having a General Budget (now called World Evangelism Fund or WEF) would unify the denominations fund raising efforts. In 1949 this General Budget was linked to the giving in local churches. Each church was asked to aim at giving 10 percent of offerings received for world evangelism. This was like a "tithe" given by the churches to help fund the mission, including administration and mission outreach. Today, the World Evangelism Fund goal for every church is just 5.5% of their offerings for the year.
In 162 world areas, Nazarenes' passion for missions compels them to give in all kinds of ways: volunteering time, praying for all people to know Christ, generously sharing resources, and passing on the stories of the church; to name just a few.
One simple and essential way to express mission passion is financial support. This is an opportunity to join with God's people across the world in contributing a small portion of the blessings God has given each of us to further the work of our church globally.
Remember, God blesses obedient churches, just as he does obedient people.

Webinar- Be Holy as I am Holy: Old Testament Holiness in Light of Christ
Often Christians think of God's call to be holy in the Old Testament as a call to legalism and the invitation to holiness in the New Testament as a call to experience the grace of Jesus Christ.
But is the call to holiness in the Old Testament simply based on keeping the Law (or Torah)? Is holiness of the Old Testament replaced by or is it completed in Jesus?
Dr. Daniels will explore how the ancient invitations to "be holy as God is holy" are still significant in the life of God's people today.
