Reflecting God – Embrace Holy Living - WordAction - The Foundry Publishing House of Kansas City, Missouri, United States - The Global Church of the Nazarene for Tuesday, 7 November 2017 "One Body, but Divrse" by Rudy Morgan - 1 Corinthians 12:12-20
1 Corinthians 12:12 For just as the body is one but has many parts; and all the parts of the body, though many, constitute one body; so it is with the Messiah. 13 For it was by one Spirit that we were all immersed into one body, whether Jews or Gentiles, slaves or free; and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.
14 For indeed the body is not one part but many. 15 If the foot says, “I’m not a hand, so I’m not part of the body,” that doesn’t make it stop being part of the body. 16 And if the ear says, “I’m not an eye, so I’m not part of the body,” that doesn’t make it stop being part of the body. 17 If the whole body were an eye, how could it hear? If it were all hearing, how could it smell? 18 But as it is, God arranged each of the parts in the body exactly as he wanted them. 19 Now if they were all just one part, where would the body be? 20 But as it is, there are indeed many parts, yet just one body.

First Corinthians 12:12-20 teaches how believers should act as a part of Christ’s church. In Christian community, there are some important rights and wrongs to being in loving relationships as Christ’s disciples. Verse 12 provides a synopsis for our thoughts today: “Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.”
Our heavenly Father has one blood-washed church, but the body of Christ has diverse individuals who are granted different spiritual gifts by the Holy Spirit and assigned different roles to serve others for the glory of God. Yet, our diversity in the body does not negate the loving interdependence and fellowship that we need to exhibit within Christian community.
Often God’s children only seem to relate well to people who are similar to them. However, God has made and arranged the varied parts of His body. We need each other. God’s family works so much better when we practice faithful and loving relationships, displaying respect for each other and the authority of the Holy Spirit, who guides the Body of Christ.
So, consider your community of faith-are we all in?

Thought for Today:
Don’t grumble against one another, brothers, so that you won’t come under condemnation — look! the Judge is standing at the door!(James 5:9)
