Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs,
My spirit has been high this week as I’ve continued to give thanks that 90 of you turned out last weekend to pack the hygiene kits for Heart to Heart’s disaster relief and then on Sunday we had 19 adults and 10 children join our Resurrection Blue Springs church family. I also met two new additions to our church family. Our nursery is going to be growing!.
These are signs that God is clearly at work in our congregation and you can be sure all of these items went into my gratitude journal this week. I hope you’ve been taking the time to make your list every day as a way to unleash the power of gratitude. We will have a few journals available at Guest Services, if you were unable to pick one up this past Sunday.
Here is the list of new members, which we’ll welcome in worship this Sunday: Ronny & Sabrina Dady (Keaton Dady & Sabien Harris), Don Meyer & Linda Grantham, Konner & Bri Kappelman (Emersyn), Leslie Newton (Zaria), Chris & Beckie Russell, Patrick & Elizabeth Schonfeldt (Noah & Henry), R.D. & Laura Sturgis (Layla, Emery & Ada), Jimmy & Liz Talamantez (Kennedy), Ken & Linda Williams, Greg & Jean Wilmott
It will also be an important Sunday for us as it is Commitment Weekend, a time when we invite everyone who considers Resurrection their church home to return their pledge cards. These financial commitments are critical to helping us realize the God-sized dreams before us in the coming year. During worship we will place them all together in a basket and offer them to God as an act of worship and a sign of our faithfulness to God.
Bill and I are prayerfully considering our commitment for 2018 this week in preparation for Sunday. We have found that our lives have been enriched and we have grown closer to God as we have increased our giving and committed to placing God first. We encourage you to do the same. Please take time to pray, complete, and bring your commitment card this Sunday to worship. If you are unable to be present in worship, I would invite you to please fill out your pledge online by clicking here.
This Sunday we’ll continue our sermon series, With Grateful Hearts by taking a look at thanksgiving in the midst of adversity. We’ll look at examples of this in scripture and explore how gratitude in the tough times has the power to help us find joy in hardship. I look forward to preaching again this Sunday and continuing this journey with you.
Also, don't forget to return the Thanksgiving grocery donations and $25 grocery gift cards for JOY in serving on Sunday. These items will be going to our backpack families to help ensure they have a special Thanksgiving celebration this week. You'll see the list of other JOY in Serving opportunities for the holidays listed below.
I thank you for the many ways you care for others and look forward to seeing you this weekend!

Hanging of the Greens
Following the 10:45 worship service on Sunday, Nov. 26, we will gather to get the church ready for the Advent and Christmas seasons! Lunch provided. Come join the festive fun!
JOY in Serving Collection Opportunity
Please save your empty toilet paper and paper towel rolls and bring them to the church starting November 19th. We’ll let you know once we’ve collected enough. We are using them for a craft at the Joy Party we are hosting at Wendell Phillips Elementary, our partner school in the inner city.
Breakfast with Santa
Saturday, Dec. 2, 9:30-11 am. Bring the whole family for an Advent celebration with Santa and Buddy the Elf. We’ll have pancakes “elf” style. Our children’s choir will be leading Christmas carols since we know that “singing loud for all to hear is the best way to spread Christmas cheer!” We’ll have fun activities for the whole family as well as a chance to get your yearly photo with Santa. All your family and friends are welcome to come along too. Volunteers are needed for the morning. Sign up to help at the KiDSCOR desk or Guest Services.
Youth Confirmation Class Forming Now
Starting January 2018 – Open to any student 7th-12th grade ready to grow in faith and who hasn’t already been through confirmation. Sign up at Guest Services or email Caleb.Longest@cor.org.
