DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2017
Jesus said to [Thomas], “I am the way,
and the truth, and the life."  (John 14:6 (NRSV))
I love driving. And as I drive, I love listening to music and admiring the view of God’s creation.
Some months ago, I was driving to a familiar town to see some relatives, and I thought that I knew the road very well. At a crossing, I read the signs and entered a roundabout — only to take the wrong exit. Then a storm came up, which confused me even more.
I traveled many kilometers while trying to find my way. Nervous and almost despairing, I decided that I needed to get back to the roundabout where I had missed my turn.
That situation reminds me of the panic I feel when I realize my mistakes along the road of faith. Often, I think I can overcome a mistake without God’s help, but then I move farther and farther away from God. I have to stop and turn to God for help rather than trying to find the right direction on my own.
While praying for God’s direction during that difficult drive, I realized that Christ’s example is the path we have to follow, and I gave thanks to our Lord.
TODAY'S PRAYER:
Thank you, God, for helping us to find the right way. Amen.

TODAY'S READING: John 14:1-7
John 14:1 “Don’t let yourselves be disturbed. Trust in God and trust in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many places to live. If there weren’t, I would have told you; because I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3 Since I am going and preparing a place for you, I will return to take you with me; so that where I am, you may be also. 4 Furthermore, you know where I’m going; and you know the way there.”
5 T’oma said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you’re going; so how can we know the way?” 6 Yeshua said, “I AM the Way — and the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except through me. 7 Because you have known me, you will also know my Father; from now on, you do know him — in fact, you have seen him.”
