Making Disciples:

Jesus commands us in Matthew 28:19-20 to make disciples. He says, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” I love this Scripture very much! I do my best to live this Scripture to the fullest. I try to make disciples within three pockets of people in my life.
1.) Pre-Believers – these are the people that I invest in personally that do not have a current relationship with Christ. I try to share, I try to model, I pray for them and I just try to be present for them.
2.) New Believers – these are the people that are new to the faith in the last 18 months. I seek to invest my time personally in them to show them what it means to follow Christ.
3.) Current / Mature Believers – these are the people that are following Christ and daily seeking to grow more mature in their faith. I try to help them mature and grow.
Every week, I seek to invest in these three pockets of people. I try to at least meet with people in these three pockets every week.
When we talk about discipleship, we often think of the class room setting or the home group setting. I personally believe in the class room setting and the home group setting. They are very effective! But I want to ask you today about personal discipleship.
How are you personally discipling other people individually? This is best done with just you and the other person. Maybe for food, or coffee or just a casual visit. Jesus’ call to make disciples is for each believer to personally disciple others. You might not think that you are experienced enough, or mature enough or even capable enough. However the same Spirit that lived in the believers in the early church, lives in you! Make sure that you are in the Word every day, make sure you are praying every day and make sure you are living holy. When you do these things, I believe that God’s Spirit will enable and empower you in this effort to make disciples.
So what are you waiting for? Who needs discipleship? Who do you need to personally invest in? Ask God and then get to it! We must seek our best to be obedient to this command. Maybe you could develop these three pockets of people in your ministry. I believe that God wants to use you to make disciples!
I hope you have a great week! God bless you!
