The word pity has fallen out of common use. It means, “feeling of sorrow and compassion caused by the suffering and misfortunes of others.” It is an unexplored dimension of love and compassion for most of us. When we really pause to look, we will see brokenness and hurt in the eyes and faces of our fellow humans. When we have the love of Christ in us, there is something that draws us toward the hurting, not to look down upon them in some condescending way, but something pulls us to them in real healing identification. Our Father has pity for us. Let’s practice it for our fellow humans.
“As a father pities his children, So the LORD pities those who fear Him” (Psalm 103:13 (NKJV).)
