Trinity United Methodist Church of Gainesville, Florida, United States for Friday, 2 January 2015 "Brand plucked from the fire"

Trinity United Methodist Church of Gainesville, Florida, United States for Friday, 2 January 2015 "Brand plucked from the fire"
This phrase is found in Zechariah 3:2, and it became central to Methodism when there was a fire in the parsonage at Epworth where John's father was the pastor.  All the children were out of the house except John.  When neighbors saw him at the upstairs window; a man climbed up on someone's shoulders and pulled John to safety. His mother believed God had saved him for some special purpose and called John, "a brand plucked from the fire."
Indeed, God did have a special purpose for John who spent most of his life spreading the Good news of Jesus Christ across England and on to the shores of North America.  Historians say that the "Wesleyan Revival" saved England from the devastation of the French Revolution because it was a spiritual revival that became a social renewal.  It began with John's passion to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Each Sunday morning at Trinity we begin by sharing our phrases: Welcome Home!  It's great to be home!  Why are we here?  To worship God. And then the second part of this answer we are going to change to highlight the theme of our particular sermon series, because, in truth, there are many reasons we are in worship.  For our series on the Wesleys we will be saying:  "And to share the Good News of Jesus Christ!"  When we do that with passion and with a sense of its fullness, then lives and societies will be changed.  Thanks be to God.
Remember, this Sunday we are back to our regular worship schedule of 3 services, and the very special John Wesley Covenant Service; it will get your new year off in the best possible way.
