Happy Friday! I hope you are doing well on this second official day of Fall. Wendy and I celebrated yesterday by picking up one of our favorites, the Roasterie’s Autumn Harvest Blend. We are enjoying a cup of it together this morning as I type! This weekend is going to be a great weekend in ministry as we enter into the full swing of our fall schedule. There is a lot going on at Resurrection Downtown! This afternoon several RezDowntown men will be heading off to the Annual Men’s campout starting at 1pm today! There’s still time to connect with this group and join the campout if you’re looking for a great weekend camping experience. Be sure to visit cor.org/downtown/menscampout or contactdan@starkravingsolutions.com.
In addition to hosting our Men’s Campout, this weekend we also have the privilege of stepping out into the community to host our Second Annual Blessing of the Animals at Washington Park on Saturdaymorning from 9am to 11am. This Saturday morning is the perfect morning to invite your friends (and their pets) to spend some time in the city. We’ll be setting up near the corner of Pershing & Grand, just across the street from Crown Center, where we'll have several vendors and pastors present as we bless your pets with a small prayer and gift. If you happened to have lost a pet this year and you want to remember him or her, we will also have a blessing and a gift to share with you in their memory! We're really excited to be able to meet the community in this way, and we hope you'll join us. For more information or to volunteer, contactLea.Morrison@cor.org or visit cor.org/downtown/blesstheanimals. Also, after you visit the Blessing of the Animals, feel free to make an entire morning of it by venturing over to Crown Center where they’ll be hosting a big “Maker Fair” complete with food trucks, music and lots of creativity! It's something I look forward to visiting every year!
Finally, this weekend we’ll be concluding our series of sermons on Moses. It has been such great journey together as we have sought to retrace Moses' footsteps, and this weekend will be sure to provide a fitting and inspiring conclusion. I hope you’ll join us as we conclude this journey and continue to seek to live fully into every opportunity we have to worship! I'll be present in worship this weekend as well, except for our 10:45 worship service, as I have been asked to preach at Centennial United Methodist Church for their worship service at 10:40am. I'm excited to be able to have an opportunity to preach in one of the oldest African American congregations in our city!
In the meantime, here are a variety of ways to get connected to the life of this church:
Rezdt 20/30 Community Dinner This Sunday night. – Join us this Sunday evening for an old fashioned potluck dinner in the coffee shop of 1522 McGee after the completion of the 5 pm service (around 6:15 pm) on Sunday, September 25. Please bring a dish to share. Email Jory Mick at jorylmick@gmail.com with any questions.
Positive Parenting begins this Sunday, September 25 at 10:30am. It’s a negative world and often a hard place to be positive, especially when parenting. Stress, jobs, activities and more make it difficult to raise our children in a positive way. Be a part of this 3-week study led by Justin Bastin, a licensed therapist, who will help you create strategies for raising your child or children in an uplifting fashion for both you and your child! Childcare will be available at the McGee building while you attend these classes at the Grand location. (Children’s programming will be available all morning for both 9am worship service and this 10:30am class.) For questions contact Justin Bastin as jbastin188@gmail.com. Registration is required, please go tocor.org/downtown/classes.
Glory Revival Worship Night – This Wednesday, September 28, 7 pm, 1522 McGee. Gather with folks in our community and all over the country for an evening of worship featuring Glory Revival, a community of artists, songwriters and creative individuals born out of the Resurrection Downtown worship ministry. Many of Glory Revival’s songs make up the core of worship at Resurrection Downtown. Attendees of Resurrection’s Leadership Institute will also be there – it’s a great chance to be neighborly! No registration required – just come on Wednesday and bring a friend!
Join our continuing conversation on race with Pastor Scott Chrostek and Rev. Dr. F. Willis Johnson (Pastor at Wellspring UMC in Ferguson, MO). In light of the most recent tragedies in Tulsa and Charlotte, we are hosting continued conversations on race alongside Centennial United Methodist Church and other area leaders in KC in order to find a way forward to reconciliation. Pastor Johnson will lead us in this conversation using his experiences from Ferguson on Saturday morning, October 1st from 8:30 to Noonat RezDowntown (1522 McGee). Please share with and invite friends and neighbors and be sure to register here: http://rez.wufoo.com/forms/rez-dt-holding-up-your-corner/
Nominations for Resurrection Committees seeking candidates to serve beginning in 2017: finance, trustees, staff parish relations, foundation, nominations and lay delegates to annual conference. You can refer someone you know, or indicate your interest in serving by Sunday, October 16, online atcor.org/committees.
Meals Ministry – If you have a heart for serving friends who are grieving, adjusting to life with a new baby or recovering from surgery, consider joining the meals ministry. We cook meals and deliver them to homes for short-term needs as a way of sharing the light of Christ when life is hard. Please contact Lindsay McCoy Lentz at lklentz320@gmail.com for more information.
RezRidersDT - RezDT’s Bicycle Club meets every Saturday at 7:30 am in the 1522 McGee parking lot to leave at 7:45 am. It will be a 90-minute, no-drop ride in the city. All levels of experience are welcome. For more information, visit cor.org/downtown/rezridersdt.

Finally as I conclude this eNote, I want to share that for the past 2 ½ years we have been blessed to have Lea Morrison on our staff. Her grace and kindness have made a difference to us and to those of you who have had the opportunity to work with her. She has helped our church run more efficiently and effectively as well as being the reason folks feel so welcome when they come to see us! With all of that said, we have two emotions, one is that our hearts are heavy as she will be leaving our staff at the end of the month and, on the other hand, we are overjoyed that Lea will continue to make a difference in the community as she will be one of Resurrection Downtown’s Congregational Care Ministers! Thank you Lea!
It is such a privilege to be a part of this community...Have a great Friday in KC and I'll look forward to another amazing weekend of ministry in downtown Kansas City! See you at Washington Park!!!
Blessings,
Scott
