Dear Friends,
Each November 11, we pause to recognize Veterans Day, a way to acknowledge the sacrifices of service members who have represented our nation with distinction.
The freedoms and rights that all of us as Americans are privileged to have and hold come at a cost. Veterans have answered the call again and again when our nation and its values have come under attack.
That's why President Dwight D. Eisenhower, in 1954, released the first "Veterans Day Proclamation," to ensure that Americans would continue to honor veterans for their contributions to the effort to keep our country safe.
Our region, home to the largest concentration of military in the world, offers residents many opportunities to thank a veteran for his or her service.
I'm pleased to pay tribute to our local veterans by taking part in San Diego's annual Veterans Day Parade, along Harbor Drive, at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 11, 2016.
Please join us this Veterans Day as we celebrate those who have served and put their lives on the line to protect and preserve our nation's freedoms.
