Proverbs (1)" Bible Reading: Proverbs 1:1-7 for Wednesday, 2 November 2016
Proverbs 1:1 The proverbs of Shlomo the son of David,
king of Isra’el,
2 are for learning about wisdom and discipline;
for understanding words expressing deep insight;
3 for gaining an intelligently disciplined life,
doing what is right, just and fair;
4 for endowing with caution those who don’t think
and the young person with knowledge and discretion.
5 Someone who is already wise
will hear and learn still more;
someone who already understands
will gain the ability to counsel well;
6 he will understand proverbs, obscure expressions,
the sayings and riddles of the wise.
7 The fear of Adonai is the beginning of knowledge,
but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

Today we will begin a series of devotions based on verses from Proverbs. This book was written by King Solomon, and it is a wonderful guidebook for us.
Proverbs has 31 chapters. Chapters 1-9 are teachings from a father to his son. One example of this is Proverbs 3:5: “Trust the Lord completely, and don’t depend on your own knowledge.” These chapters remind us to always rely on God.
Chapters 10-29 are words of wisdom from King Solomon. In these chapters Solomon teaches us to fear God, work hard, be honest, live the right way and give generously. Proverbs 16:3 is an example of this: “Turn to the Lord for help in everything you do, and you will be successful.” Chapters 30-31 of Proverbs contain more wise sayings and instructions on finding a good wife.
Tomorrow we will continue looking at verses from the book of Proverbs. Pay attention to God’s Word, and you will find wisdom.[Barbara Rusiecki]
“They will teach you to develop your mind in the right way. You will learn to do what is right and to be honest and fair.”[Proverbs 1:3]
PRAYER: Father, help me to understand Your Word and learn from it. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
