Thanksgiving Eve. Join us November 23rd at 7 p.m. for a special Wednesday Night Live. We will join members of St. Andrew and Centennial UMCs in giving thanks to God. Rev. Jason Bryles will bring the Word and St. Andrew will minister in music. The evening's offering will be donated to UMCOR relief efforts in Haiti caused by Hurricane Matthew.
Anniversary Celebration. Our 61st Church Anniversary is this Sunday, November 20th at 10 a.m. Both campuses will join together to celebrate and worship at the Paseo Campus. Pastor Lia McIntosh, Missional Strategist of the Missouri Conference, is our guest preacher. Each member is asked to give $61.00 in recognition of our anniversary. Everyone is asked to wear a base color of black or winter white. To recognize the many generations in our congregation, please wear a splash of the following colors:
G.I./Silent Generations (1901-1945) - Gold
Boomer Generation (1946-1964) - Silver
Generation X (1965-1980) - Red
Millenial Generation (1981-2000) - Purple
Generation Z (2001-Present) - Blue

Sermon Series. Jesus came, but why? Why did God the Father send Jesus to the earth? What was humanity missing or needing? Whatever it was, could we have figured it out on our own? The answer to these questions will come during the season of Advent. Dr. 3 will begin a four part sermon series on November 27th entitled: REASONS.

Family Fun Night! Everyone is invited to an evening of food, fun, fellowship, games and music Wednesday, December 21st from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the Renaissance Campus. There will be something for everyone!
Wednesday Night Live. Each week at 7 p.m., experience praise and worship and a powerful Word from God. Childcare is provided for ages 1-4, with activities for children and youth ages 5-18.

The 2016 Advent Devotions are in. The booklet is designed for families or individuals and contains brief readings for each day in Advent, including a suggested scripture, a short devotion, and a closing prayer. Stop by the Welcome Center after worship to get your copy for only $1.00.
Disciple Fast Track - Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study. Have you wanted to study the Bible, but felt you didn't have time for a 34 week study? Well, this study is for folks with busy lives is just for you. This 12 session of the New Testament is ideal for those wanting a comprehensive study in a short period of time. Marriage Ministry Sunday School. Did you know there are six commitments every happily married couple makes to help them get the marriage they want? How is your marriage? Regardless of what it's like, learn techniques to improve your marriage by attending the Couples' Sunday School Class. We're studying the book "Getting the Marriage You Want" by Gary Smalley. Senior Fitness & Bible Study. Join us at the Paseo Campus every Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. for light to moderate exercise done from the comfort of a chair! A trained fitness expert will guide you through exercises that help strengthen you, and the fellowship will help motivate you. Then, stay for Senior Bible Study from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and get strengthened in the spirit! Feel free to bring a dish and join us in the potluck lunch following our study time.
Bible Study at Renaissance. Tuesday night is Community Night at the Renaissance Campus! Bring the family out for food & fellowship! Yes, there will be a word as well - a timely message to boost your work week. There will be something for children & teens, too. Come out & get to know your church family!
Prayer Time. December has been our month of prayer for the last few years. Please join us in prayer Monday thru Friday at 6 am on the prayer line 530-881-1212, code 293680996, and noon at the church or on the prayer line. So let's end the year with prayer and begin the New Year on a spiritual high through Prayer Time.

Post Election Blues? Tuesday, December 13th at 6 p.m., the Not Just the Blues Ministry hosts Lemuel Kimes, LMSW, in an interactive presentation about understanding the difference between emotions and feelings from a cultural perspective. Attendees will learn techniques and strategies for handling emotions and feelings in a healthy and productive fashion. Mr. Kimes will also engage us in a non-partisan, post election dialogue from a cultural and historical context.
Surviving the Holidays. For those facing a holiday season after the death of a loved one, the Grief Support Ministry is offering a "GriefShare Surviving the Holidays" Seminar Thursday, December 8th at 6 p.m. You will learn: how to deal with the many emotions you'll face during the holidays; what to do about traditions and other coming changes; helpful tips for surviving social events and how to discover hope for the future.
Participants receive a copy of the GriefShare Survival Guide that provides support on your journey through the holidays. We will conclude with a candle-lighting ceremony in remembrance of your loved one. Register online or contact Rosalyn Wilson at wgmn1969@att.net.
Servants Needed. Congregational Care Ministers (CCMs) are trained lay
members who serve as extensions of the pastoral team to provide care to our church family. They use their gifts and graces to minister to members, make hospital visits, telephone persons in need of contact, meet one-on-one with persons to be a listening ear for prayer and encouragement, offer support to grieving families and proactively seek to encourage and care for members and their family during times of greatest need. As our church grows, so becomes the need to equip more individuals to serve. If you feel called, contact Pastor Laurice A. Holiday Movie Party. All children are invited to an afternoon of fun Saturday, December 17th from 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. We will enjoy lunch, a movie (The Secret Life of Pets) and craft activity. There is no cost. Children under age five must be accompanied by an adult.
Christmas Program. Our annual celebration is Sunday, December 18th at 9:45 a.m. in the sanctuary. Rehearsals will be held each week during the Sunday School hour, so children and youth should be in attendance every Sunday leading up to the program. The entire congregation is encouraged to attend and celebrate.
Little Vessel Ushers. Children ages 5-11 serve as ushers every 3rd Sunday during 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. worship. No experience needed - on the job training is provided. The uniform is a white button down shirt and black slacks or skirt. Contact Brenda Sylvan at 816-942-4258.
Scouting Ministry
Cub Scouts (Grades 1-5) meet every 1st and 3rd Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in Kidz Kingdom. Contact Nyrobi at ncollins@stjamesumc.com.
Boy Scouts (Ages 11-18) have a new meeting date and time - each Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Kidz Kingdom. Contact Roosevelt Braxton at 816-305-2656.
Girl Scouts (Grades K-12) meet on selected Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Contact Carmellya Anderson at canderson@marc.org or 816-809-5428.
Adult Volunteers. Committed adults are always needed to participate. Training is required and provided at no cost. Contact one of the adults listed above to get started.

Holiday Giving. Donations are still needed for our annual Thanksgiving and Christmas food distributions (November 19th and December 17th). Please consider donating food baskets to help us meet our goal of serving 700 households at each holiday. See the shopping list below. Once you have purchased your items, please bring your filled bags and place them at the altar in the sanctuary.

Kidney Health Screening. Did you know that one in three people are at risk for kidney disease? Are you the one? Risk factors include Diabetes and high blood pressure, but there are generally no symptoms until the late stages of kidney disease. Learn your risk at a free screening Saturday, November 19th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. What to expect at the event: Risk Survey, blood pressure check, body mass index (BMI) measurement, an opportunity to speak with a healthcare professional, free educational materials, and for individuals at risk, an ACR urine test for albumin (a type of protein). Must be 18 years of age or older to participate. All participants will receive a free bag of groceries from Truman Medical Center's Mobile Market. Health Ministry Announcements.
Flu Season is upon us. To protect yourself, family and friends please get your flu shot today. Anyone 6 months of age and older are recommended by the CDC to get vaccinated. It takes two weeks before it is effective so get it before the holidays!
Volunteers Needed. The Health Ministry needs volunteers to serve as mentors in a High Blood Pressure self-management program, contact Meredith Shellner at 816-506-5204 or lionmets@msn.com.
