Hello, Pastors and Ministry Leaders! The following is an update on ministry and key events around the District.
On Mission
Here is a very encouraging and exciting report from Rev. Ryan Albaugh (Megan) about the first District NYI Young Adult Camp and the newly added worship celebration:
"From August 10-12th over 80 young adults from the Arizona District retreated and had camp in San Diego. The theme for the trip was COMPOSE, which is the word for both 'composure' and 'composition'. Over the course of four worship sessions Pastors Trevor Cherryholmes (Tempe), Dave Charlton (Monte Vista), Ryan Albaugh (Mesa), and Sean Gafford (Monte Vista) taught about what it means to have composure, to embrace times of retreat and relaxation, and what it means to compose God's kingdom in the world today.
We enjoyed fellowship with one another at the beach where we cooked hot dogs and s'mores over fire pits. We enjoyed worship in the middle of Ocean Beach Park and in the historic Greek Amphitheater of Point Loma Nazarene University. The group played an awesome game of manhunt in downtown San Diego and spent time getting to know each other over meals of burritos and pizza. God showed up and spoke to our young adults and to our District NYI, where the need for more Young Adult specific ministries was requested going forward.
To help meet this need, we started a monthly worship service called 'Celebration' this past weekend at Tempe Church and will do it again next month at Monte Vista Church. Also there is a planned winter retreat this coming February."
Thanks to Rev. Ryan Albaugh and his team for their leadership of this successful ministry to young adults!
And let me add: Please assist our District Co-NYI Presidents, Rev. Dave Charlton (Kristina) and Rev. Sean Gafford (Shannon) by supporting this important new ministry to young adults through your prayers, encouragement and promotion of upcoming events.
NYC Volunteers Needed
From Jana Burnham, USA/Canada NYI Program Staff: "We are excited to join you in Phoenix July 10-14, 2019 for NYC 2019 - Love God Love Others! I'm sure you can imagine that any event this size takes lots of people in order to pull it off well. As the Volunteer Coordinator for NYC 2019, I'm looking for people in the Phoenix area willing to serve as local event volunteers. Would you be willing to help me find the best volunteers in Phoenix? If you are willing to partner with me over these next couple of months to help me find the right team of people for our local event volunteer team, please let me know so we can begin to communicate and recruit. Thanks for your support of NYC 2019!"

Resonance Theological Journal
From Micah Lunsford: "As you know, I have been continuing to develop the Resonance journal project and recently we have restructured things to make Digital Subscriptions free. I would really like to invite all of the pastors/leaders in the AZ District to join the conversation. I hope and pray that Resonance might be an encouragement to them and a resource for the district as a whole. Would you be willing to help me by inviting the pastors and leaders on the District to sign up for a digital subscription?
I look forward to hearing from you and exploring ways to make this project more of a blessing to the district community as a whole."

The Carneys will conclude their assignment as global missionaries to Paraguay where he also serves as Field Strategy Coordinator and District Superintendent for three mission districts. Tentatively, they will start the first Sunday in December. Let's welcome the Carney's to the District.
Rev. Barry and Charlie Carney
I appointed Rev Mike Morrison as Interim Pastor at Yuma Connecting Point. He and Pat began serving September 1.Regretfully, our transition plan at Pinerock did not go as hoped for and I made a change in personnel. I appointed Rev. Ron Fay (Carol) as Interim Director.
Hurricane Florence
We appreciate the outpouring of support even as Hurricane Florence continues to cause massive damage. Volunteers will be a critical part of the recovery and rebuilding phase, but it's too early to know exactly when and where volunteer support will be most needed. If you are interested in volunteering with the disaster response efforts, visit www.ncm.org/Florence and click the VOLUNTEER button. Once the affected districts are able to receive volunteers, a representative will be in touch with you. If you desire to support the relief efforts financially, visit www.ncm.org/Florence and click on the GIVE NOW button.
Congratulations
- Pastor Kevin McGinnis (Lisa) and Mosaic Church received their occupancy permit from the town of Florence. The building dedication will be October 14th.
Church of the Nazarene
A successful church/pastoral review was conducted for Rev. Katy Scott at Lake Havasu. Thanks to Pastor Katy and Kent for their faithful and visionary leadership!
Oro Valley Church will celebrate its 40th Anniversary on November 18. Congratulations to Pastor Craig Coulter (Robin) and the congregation!
Closing Thought
I am thankful for your ongoing support of our shared vision to reach broken, hurting people with the hope of Christ. It begins with your outstanding commitment and faithful service to your local church and it's ministries. And it spreads and multiplies through the people you invest in locally and send as ministers, both lay and clergy.
In addition, even more Kingdom expansion and multiplication occurs as you generously invest further through denominational apportionments, District age-group ministries, Pinerock Camp and Retreat Center, plus church planting and re-starts efforts.
I am blessed and fortunate to work alongside each of you-thanks for all you do, as you love, care and invest in people!
