December 2013 – “THIS IS MY FATHER’S WORLD”
SCRIPTURE: The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among
us.”(JOHN 1:14A)
John’s version of the nativity is “The Word became
flesh...” John is more concerned about
who Jesus is than about the details of a nativity. “The Word” is God’s creative agency from
(Genesis 1): “And God said, ‘Let there
be...” God speaks it happens! John says
God “spoke” Jesus into existence? John
is clearly saying Jesus is the very Creator who made us all, for “all things
were made through him.” The Creator
becomes a part of the creation, a human being like us!
What does this have to do with the Christmas narrative? One morning I felt led to walk the “Nolan
Trail” through the woods behind Trinity’s buildings. Walking amongst the trees, hearing the birds
singing, admiring the beauty of nature, my mind began echoing this song:
This is my Father’s world, and to my listening ears all nature
sings…his hand the wonders wrought... O let me ne’er forget that though the
wrong seems oft so strong, God is the ruler yet.
This is what Christmas is all about! No matter how far we wander from God’s way or
how many Herod's there are, God is still ruler.
God speaks Jesus into existence to bring the Kingdom of Heaven upon the
earth until “every knee bows... and every tongue confesses that Jesus Christ is
Lord!”
PRAYER: Loving Creator, speak your love into me that I may be your
Presence in the world. AMEN.
