2013 – Devotion – “THE BIBLE…OUR GUIDE BOOK”
SCRIPTURE: Jesus answered, “I am the way
and the truth and the life.”(JOHN 14:6)
While traveling through Israel, I often
thought how convenient it would be if we had an internal GPS system in our
bodies. That would have helped me to be
less disoriented as to where we were, where we had been, and where we were going. I wondered how the early Disciples of Christ
felt as they traveled. Did they know
where they were, where they were going, and how long the journey would
take? How did they plan - or did they? They must have had inner peace and trust as
they traveled, just as we did with our Guide Mishi, Pastor Dan, and our faith
in Jesus.
We traveled along the coast of the
Mediterranean Sea to Caesarea by the Sea, Mt. Carmel, Megiddo, Nazareth, Sea of
Galilee, Caesarea Philippi at the foot of Mount Hermon, Tabgha, Capernaum,
Jordan River, Masada, and then the Spiritual Journey from the Dead Sea to the
assent of the Holy City! “Jerusalem, Jerusalem,” was sung as we saw for the
first time in person, the City with the Golden Dome shining in the sun! The feeling was overwhelming! We stayed three days in the Holy City. We walked the Via Dolorosa, where scriptures
were read at each Station of the Cross, visited the Tunnels along the Western
Wall as well as a visit to the Wall, The Temple Mount, Garden Tomb, and
Bethlehem.
I often think of the Bible as my GPS. God
put us on the earth with a good guide book: The Bible. He made sure we had a good trail guide and as
we traveled through Israel, we used the supplies for the journey that are found
in the Bible.
PRAYER: God, thank you for sending us
your son. He will help us see your way
more clearly. Help us to look for your
path, and give us strength to follow it. AMEN.
