January 2014 “The Rhythm of Our Lives”
The Lord said to Moses, "Speak to the Israelites and say to
them: 'These are my appointed feasts...'" (Leviticus 23) These are the feasts: Sabbath, Passover,
Firstfruits, Weeks, Trumpets, Day of Atonement and Feast of Tabernacles.
At Trinity we are proponents of what is called, "The Liturgical
Year," which means we order our worship life around: Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter,
Pentecost, which are similar to the Jewish feasts, from which they came.
We need this "ordering of our lives." We need to feel there is this larger dimension
to who we are. So much of our society
has lost this sense of the Divine that overarches our lives, which makes it
ever more important for the Church to be the loud Reminder that it is God who
is over all and in all. Amen.
