[Daily Scripture] Daily Scripture Email – Devotion – Tuesday, 7 January 2014 “An Unhappy Beginning”
Now the serpent... said, "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden? (Genesis 3: 1).
Somehow we humans began to distrust God.  There is no good reason for it, but we did, and we sometimes do, and that generally leads to our disobeying God.  Theologians have called this chap. 3 in Genesis "The Fall."  And so begins the story of humanity's distancing itself from God.  God begins to set it right with his relationship with Abraham and Sarah, and then throughout Israel's history.  But the distance is only bridged through the life of God's own Son, Jesus.  However, all the earlier Hebrew expressions of the bridge are valid in their own right, and are to be celebrated, which we will do over the next months.
The message here:  remember we are all frail and vulnerable to fall, so it is vitally important that we find our strength in "Christ who strengthens me!" (Philippians 4:13).
