Homeless Connect Day
December 4 with the San Diego Housing Commission and Partners
DF participated at Golden Hall with assistance from John Townsend, Jeff Rodriguez, Tim Driscoll, Ben Montoya, and Joe and Monica Holanik. It was a great opportunity for meeting our street neighbors, providing practical help, and networking among service providers.
The Church at Rancho Bernardo provided 300 hygiene kits. St. Joseph's Cathedral contributed toward the cost of the kits.

Christmas Party at Connections Housing
On Christmas day Downtown Fellowship (DF) members joined with Connections Housing (CH) residents and friends to celebrate Christmas. Over 100 people attended. It was a great time together, enjoying each other, homemade baked goods, fresh canapés from Urban Angels, special music, sharing Christmas traditions, and hearing the Christmas story. Thanks to John and Susan Townsend and Matthew 25:34-40 Ministries for organizing and leading this special gathering. Thanks also to Harbor Presbyterian Church Downtown for their generous support of this event

DF Planning Meeting
November 23, Saturday, 9 AM to 1 PM
First Presbyterian Church
Approximately 25 people participated in a lively planning session on 11/23. Results of this group work, online survey responses, and stakeholder interviews will inform DF goals for 2014. Some recommendations are already being implemented. The DF February meeting will include feedback and more on updated goals for 2014.
Connections Housing
·        Our DF partnership with PATH, ALPHA, and other social service providers  continues at Connections Housing (CH). The DF executive director maintains regular office hours at CH and coordinates collaboration between DF members and the CH team.
·        DF members continue to engage at CH with the following specific activities:
·        Wednesday afternoon Bible Study led by John Townsend of Matthew 25:34-40 Ministries
·        participation in the bi-monthly integrated street outreach team meetings with representation by Tim Driscoll of Walk a Mile in Their Shoes and Joe and Monica Holanik
·        Life skills training for ALPHA/PATH case managers and residents, coordinated by Dick Karlson and Paul Ghizzone from Presbyterian Urban Ministries (PUM). The 8 session course for ALPHA/PATH case managers was completed on October 17. DF is working with ALPHA on presentation of this curriculum for interim residents, beginning January 2014.
·        Companionship Model: DF and UPLIFT continue to work with PATH on a concept paper describing collaborative support for CH interim residents as they transition into permanent supportive housing. A pilot project is planned for commencement early in 2014.
·        Relationship building: Joe and Monica Holanik are spending regular hours at CH meeting with residents and building supportive friendships.
·        DF Volunteer Contribution at CH: DF currently deploys approximately 10 volunteers on a regular basis for various activities as mentioned above. These volunteers serve an estimated 146 hours monthly.
·        Celebrate Recovery (CR): the Monday evening CR meeting was discontinued in November. A new CR meeting will commence on January 13 at 7 PM with a special movie night. Monday evening CR will be lead in the coming months by Kevin Graves and Mel and Ruth Ely.
·        Practical support for CH residents: in recent weeks DF has provided transportation assistance for residents on route to job interviews and reporting to new jobs; one CH resident was provided a move in kit for more permanent housing in the SD area; a DF member has recently provided art supplies for the CH Thursday afternoon art group
