Blue Springs, Missouri, United States - The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Blue Springs enote from Reverend Penny Ellwood for Friday, 21 March 2014
Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs,
Last weekend I traveled to St. Louis for a baby shower for my daughter.  The shower included family and friends from my daugther's "in-law" side.  When we arrived at the home of my daughter's in-laws, where we stayed for the weekend, we were greeted with warm hospitality and lots of excitement for the event.  I was handed a gift immediately from the other grandma-to-be.  It included several thoughtful items, including a go-cup that said, "Grandma's my name and spoiling's my game."  I felt immediately welcome and quickly we were enveloped in a world of pink and all kinds of baby musing in anticipation of this little one to come.  This same care was taken to welcome each and every shower guest the day of the event too.  It was a wonderful weekend.
This weekend reminded me again of the importance of hospitality and welcoming strangers.  This is something that we have to be cognizant of every week at church but even more so on the high holy days when we recieve a large number of guests.  These times are a ripe opportunity to nudge someone who may have fallen away back into a relationship with God and a faith community.  In just a few short weeks, we are anticipating an Easter celebration that will bring in a houseful of guests. We want to be ready so that every person that enters our doors has a positive experience and feels welcome.
As we have grown, we have a need for more volunteers to ensure this radical hospitality.  This Sunday in our bulletin there will be an insert where you can sign up to help us accomplish this goal of making everyone feel welcome.  Then on April 6th, at noon, we'll gather for lunch and hold a training session for each of these hospitality roles so that we're ready for Easter.  I hope you'll take some time to pray about serving in one of these positions and sign up this Sunday.
Pastor Adam's new book "Making Sense of the Bible" was released on Tuesday this week. Several of you have asked how you might get a copy of Adam's book.  We are expecting to have 20 copies for sale in our bookcase this weekend for those of you who would like to purchase a copy - $17 (incl. tax), check or cash only please.
