The problem of negative self-image that we try so hard to solve is already completely solved, and most people don’t know it.

The Common Wonderful
"You Are Not that Important AND 'Your Name Is Written in Heaven'” Tuesday, 22 April 2014
The second message of the common wonderful: It is true that you are not that important, and it is also true that “. . . your name is written in heaven” (Luke 10:20).
If you know your original blessing, you can easily handle your original sin. If you rest in a previous dignity, you can bear insults effortlessly. Ultimate security allows you to suffer small insecurities without tremendous effort.
If we cannot trust that we have an eternal identity in God, then we are burdened with creating our own personal importance day after day. Either we are made by another or we must be self-made—or we live in the hall of mirrors of everybody else’s image of us. Then we vie with one another for a zero-sum dignity and importance. We become lost in comparison, envy, competition, and codependency.
Authentic spirituality is an experience of abundance and mutual flourishing instead of a limited world of scarcity (“Their success is my loss!”). Only material gifts and ego gifts decrease in this way, whereas spiritual gifts actually increase with each use, in ourselves and in those around us. There is no loss in the world of Spirit, but all becomes an avenue to more.
Your importance is given and bestowed in this universe, which is the unbreakable covenant between you and your Creator. God declares you objectively important. As Isaiah says, “God has branded you on the palms of his hands” (49:16). The problem of negative self-image that we try so hard to solve is already completely solved, and most people sadly do not know this.
