Nehemiah 9:7-8
7 You are the Lord, the God who chose Abram and brought him out of Ur of the Chaldeans and gave him the name Abraham. 8 You found his heart faithful before you, and made with him the covenant to give to his offspring the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Jebusite, and the Girgashite. And you have kept your promise, for you are righteous.
DAY 33 – GLORY BE TO THE LORD, OUR GOD!
The celebration continues. This time the celebration is for the work of God in one man’s life…
SCRIPTURE: Nehemiah 9:7 You are Yahweh, the God who chose Abram, and brought him out of Ur of the Chaldees, and gave him the name of Abraham, 8 and found his heart faithful before you, and made a covenant with him to give the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite, and the Girgashite, to give it to his offspring,[a] and have performed your words; for you are righteous.
Footnotes:
a. Nehemiah 9:8 or, seed
What are they remembering from Abraham’s life that they incorporate into their praise? 1) The fact that Abram was chosen by God.
2) God brought Abram out of Ur of the Chaldeans and led him on a “blind” path. 3) God changed his name from Abram or Abraham meaning “father of many” (Genesis 17:5). 4) God found Abraham’s heart to be faithful…Abraham believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness (Romans 4:3; Galatians 3:6-9). 5) God made a covenant with him to give his descendants the land of Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Jebusites and Girgashites.
6) God’s faithfulness…He kept His promise with Abraham.
LIFE APPLICATION: Looking back on your life, where do you see God’s hand at work? 1) You are chosen by God…Therefore (child of God), as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved… (Colossians 3:12) 2) What “blind” path have you followed as you trusted God’s leading? (You couldn’t work it out on paper.) It was God! 3) What places in your life are you celebrating because of God’s faithfulness to you? To your family? 4) Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus (Philippians 1:6).
