Kansas City, Missouri, United States - The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown with Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday, 18 April 2014
Greetings RezDowntowners,
It is with great anticipation that I write you this Good Friday. I have spent the day in prayer and meditation over the centrality of this day to our walk of faith. On the cross, Jesus, the King of Glory, the great “I Am,” willingly lays down his life to save the human race from sin, hate and separation from God. Greater love has nobody than this, that he lays his life down for one of his friends. On Good Friday, Jesus demonstrates the love he commands us to live with. He reveals what it looks like. And He shows us that it is in giving that we receive and in serving we find life and that in loving we become like Christ, one with God and one in ministry to the whole world. This is the King who calls us to follow him.
At noon today I went for a run around the city with Wendy to pray throughout the city, stop by the Kauffman and remember Christ on the cross. My hope is that you’ll take some time to sit, pray and meditate upon the importance of this day as well.
Tonight at 7:00 pm we are hosting our first Good Friday Service of Worship and Tenebrae at our McGee location. It is going to be a powerful evening filled with very traditional scripture readings and beautiful hymns. I hope you’ll take time to join us and worship with us this evening. We’ll have plenty of childcare available.
Then tomorrow, Saturday morning, from 9:00am to Noon, we’ll be going out into the community to bring Easter Festivities to several of our mission partners for this month’s Faithwork. This is a great way to go and tell the story in celebration with our neighbors. If you are able to participate tomorrow, please plan to meet at the church by 9:00am. We’ll have coffee and then send people out into the city to put your faith to work!
Finally, this Sunday is Easter Sunday. We’ll be holding two Easter Celebration Services at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts at 9:00 am and 11:00 am. We’ll have plenty of parking available in the Crossroads Arts Garage located immediately beneath the Kauffman. These will be family friendly worship services. All of your kids are invited and will receive a fun little Easter present. I’ve included a picture below for you to share on Social Media that has all of our information attached. Also, if you have any questions, please feel free to check out our website.
One more thing. We are hosting our First Vacation Bible Camp June 16-19 from 5:30 pm-8:30 pm. The camp includes children that turned 3 years old prior to 9/1/2013 through current 5th Graders. If you would like to volunteer and your child is 3 after this date we will have programming for them. Early Bird registration is going on now – register your children to attend before 5/1/2014 and pay $20 per child, after May 1st the fee is $25 per child. Follow the links on the KidsCOR website for online registration. Any questions please contact Kris Drummond.
I’m excited to spend this weekend with you in worship and I can’t wait to cry out those words I look forward to especially on a day like today, “He is Risen! He is Risen, Indeed!”
See you later today!
Grace and Peace,
Scott
