An Interesting Survey
My in-box this morning contained an email from one of my sons.  He is in college and said that he could receive extra credit if he enlisted six people to participate in an online survey.  I checked to make sure it was legitimate because, after all, it is April Fool’s Day.  It seemed okay and carried the logo of the university he attends.
The survey was about your experience in the workplace.  It was interesting, therefore, when the first 50+ questions were about my relationship with my spouse/partner and my home life.  Only after thoroughly exploring that did the questions turn to the workplace.
Many things impact our performance as individuals and organizations.  Our primary relationships color our view of the world and what we accomplish.  Tending to these can be the key to a more positive experience in life. This is easier said than done, however.  We need a “safe” person to whom we can speak and a realignment of our priorities to give these relationships the resources they deserve.
How are your primary relationships impacting the rest of your life?  If you need a “safe” person in whom you can confide and or assistance with realigning your priorities, allow us to support you.  Contact us today – don@dnacoaching.com.
Where are Your Investments?
Where does your best energy get invested?  We have a limited amount of energy.  Where it is used will determine the outcomes we experience.
Think of the organizations where you serve and the place you are employed.  Where are they making the largest investments?  How are they using their best and brightest?  What topics dominate the conversation?  Are their actions aligned with what they say is important to them?
An organization can only give its best to a few things.  If it tries to make many things “most important” then perhaps nothing is “most important”.  There may be a flurry of activity but there is relatively little progress towards stated goals.  Many things may get accomplished but there is no solid foundation being built for the future.  It is like a house being built from four sets of plans – a few rooms may look nice but the house as a whole is a disaster.
Consider a local church or even a denomination.  It may have nicely stated goals such as experiencing more professions of faith and involving more people in discipleship.  If most of the conversation centers around dwindling finances, maintaining buildings, debating political hot-button issues and repeating programs from the past, however, the goals are really just wishes and are unlikely to be met.  Even worse, since everyone keeps repeating the goals there is the danger that people will assume they will happen just because they are written down.
Follow the investment of money, time, energy and people and you will discern the real values and goals of an organization.  If you want help determining your real goals or changing actions to align with the goals, we are here to help.  Contact us today – don@dnacoaching.com.
