Sunday, July 27
Pastor Molly, preaching
8:30am in the Epworth Lounge
10:30am in the Sanctuary
Sunday's Scripture:
Matthew 6:19-21
Matthew 6: A Life of God-Worship
19-21 “Don’t hoard treasure down here where it gets eaten by moths and corroded by rust or—worse!—stolen by burglars. Stockpile treasure in heaven, where it’s safe from moth and rust and burglars. It’s obvious, isn’t it? The place where your treasure is, is the place you will most want to be, and end up being.

John Wesley's Notes-Commentary:
Matthew 6:19-21
Verse 19
[19] Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
Lay not up for yourselves — Our Lord here makes a transition from religious to common actions, and warns us of another snare, the love of money, as inconsistent with purity of intention as the love of praise.
Where rust and moth consume — Where all things are perishable and transient. He may likewise have a farther view in these words, even to guard us against making any thing on earth our treasure. For then a thing properly becomes our treasure, when we set our affections upon it. Luke 12:33.
Verse 21
[21] For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Luke 11:34.

Serving Together with Joy
By the time you read this, I will have shared several days of adventures, fun and service with our youth on our summer Sierra Service Project trip. It's such a privilege to get to be a part of these trip--both because it's a joy to serve in Jesus' name, and because our youth are so fun to be with.
There's a strange joy that I find in a week spend in service with others--a week where I'll sleep on a thin air mattress on the floor, share in preparing and cleaning up simple meals, feel the ache of muscles used in labor I'm not used to. A joy that comes from doing this for the sake of love, with others who are doing this for he sake of love.
I've found that same spirit of joy at the dish washing station in our church kitchen, as folks labor together on Wednesday nights, and in the smiles and stories of those who build homes in Mexico with Corazon. It's in the enthusiasm of our young people who've hosted LemonAid Stands for Imagine No Malaria, and in a bunch of other places.
I pray you will experience the joy of serving, too!
our peace,
Pastor Molly
We continue our summer worship schedule this Sunday, with services at 8:30 and 10:30.
Our office administrator, Ernie Valenzuela, will be on vacation next week. The office will be open 10am - 4pm, with Pastor Molly, Katherine Stanfill and our summer interns.

"O Sifuni Mungu" (Praise the Lord)
Thank you to our Guest Preacher---Rev. Nicole Reilley
This past Sunday, Reverend Nicole continued our Jungle Book sermon series with a lesson on TRUST. Trusting others, trusting ourselves, trusting God---these are concepts with which we often struggle. Sometimes it feels like we can't trust anyone, but as people of FAITH, we know that there is more for us in Jesus Christ.
Everyday try to embrace Trusting others, embrace Trusting yourself and most especially embrace Trusting God--so that you may live fully and richly in Jesus Christ.

Staff Search Committee Updates
Our Staff-Parish Relations Committee has been hard at work over the past months, working at filling leadership openings. We are pleased to share a quick status report:
-We are pleased to announce that we have hired two Theatre Arts Interns, Emily Horowitz and Rachel Perlot. Each will help with different aspects of our BeachFaith Kids Theatre Arts Camp and the production of Jungle Book that will be part of it. Funding for these short-term summer positions came through the camp fees paid by participations.
We have been overwhelmed by a wealth of amazing applicants for Music Director. Our Search Committee has begun to narrow the list of candidates, as we discern who to invite for interviews.
-We have begun to receive more applicants for Youth Director, and encourage you to continue to help us get the word out about this opening. We hope to begin to review applications as a committee at the end of July.
-We in contact with candidates, hoping to find an Interim Organist, with hopes that our new Music Director can be involved in the hire of our next regular organist in coming months.
Summer Worship Schedule
We will have TWO worship services through the summer: a casual worship service in Epworth Lounge at 8:30, and a festive combined community worship service in the sanctuary at 10:30.
July 27 - Pastor Molly will preach, "Don't worry about 'Stuff'" and we will celebrate the worship gifts of Linda and Dr. Jeanette with extra-special music.

The Lay Looker Bob Peterson This is a big thank you and compliment to our church staff beginning with Pastor Molly Vetter, Ernie, Arnie and others involved. Recently, as some of you know, a member of my family passed on. Angela Peterson, my daughter-in-law, wanted her Celebration of Life to be at my church with a dear friend, Episcopal Priest, Father Mike Olsen of New Mexico officiating. When we asked this favor, it was granted, with Pastor Molly officiating as host Pastor, and it was beautifully done. This was my family, not church goers, but devoted family supporters and community workers. How wonderful it was to have this experience go so well. I thank our staff and our church for allowing this and hope any of you who needs our services for friends, family or whatever, realize how supporting and loving our people are. Ours is not just a wonderful church, but ..."

A Great Family of Christians by Bob Peterson
This is a big thank you and compliment to our church staff beginning with Pastor Molly Vetter, Ernie, Arnie and others involved. Ours is not just a wonderful church, but a great family of Christians. You should know that you can always depend on our people to extend their love and work for you if you ever need their help.
I have been hearing the stories of SSP, Sierra Service Project, about the 24 children of our church going to Stockton, CA with some going into Nevada for the week-long service project. Can you imagine our Pastor and other adults taking charge and doing this work year after year with such a resounding success? I realize this was begun by Caroline Dawes and hope it will be carried on as our youth groups and leaders continue to inspire and lead. We can be proud of these programs.
This week-end we say the official farewell to Music Director Linda Waterman and organist/pianist Jeanette Louise Yaryan. I wish to add my thanks for Linda's years of service in music and in other ways to our church. She has been connected here since she was a teen-ager and as to her service, as they say, let us count the ways. The beautiful music these two have provided has been enjoyed, particularly during our eleven o'clock services as they both inspired and enhanced our worship experience. All of us will miss them, particularly our choir and music lovers.

Bone Marrow Donor Drive Update...
We have been informed that researchers have found an umbilical cord in Dusseldorf, Germany, that gives a 5 out of 6 match to Baylor and will begin treatment soon, possibly July 30th. The bone marrow procedure is more effective, but time is critical.
The family thanks everyone worldwide who helped to expand the donor match program. (It will take about 5 weeks to analyze the donors from the July 13th drive at Faith UMC)
With a prayer of thanksgiving and hope,
Nancy Klinger

A note from Caroline...
Dear Church Family,
I am still overwhelmed by the incredible love that you all shared with me last Sunday. I'm not sure there are words to describe how special that day was for me. I will hold all of it in my heart forever. Thank you to all who helped prepare, orchestrate, and decorate. Thank you to all of you who came to share in the day. Most of all, thank you to each of you for being a part of this beautiful church community; you've all touched my life. I love this church.
I am so comforted by the immediate future. There is an incredible team--a team I've been dreaming of for years, that will keep the youth group strong and healthy while the SPRC (the committee that hires staff) is collecting and reviewing applications. The team is comprised of youth volunteers and a few youth and it will meet regularly temporarily fill the youth leader role, and then help a new person transition well.
All of the folks on this team have gifts for youth leadership, and a passion to see this ministry continue to be shaped and nurtured. Earnie Neagle is heading up the team that will share leadership responsibilities. Meagan Burrows will be handling the communication between the leadership, families, and the congregation.
Until we meet again, I pray this:
May the Lord bless you and keep you, may the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you. May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.
Caroline

They are on a table in May Day Parlor. If you would like to have one of Bob's books - or would like to read of these works - please take and use them.
