Trinity United Methodist Church Newsletter "Tuesday Word" for Tuesday, 22 July 2014

Trinity United Methodist Church Newsletter "Tuesday Word" for Tuesday, 22 July 2014
It's my turn!  I don't know about you, but I can be pretty self-absorbed.  I appreciated David's sermon this past week on complacency because it made me very uncomfortable in my seat - I was fidgeting!  I confess, I can get comfortable very easily, especially after accomplishing something great and the feeling that it brings.  I'm currently still recovering from the past mission trips and already trying NOT to be complacent in what I've done but figuring out how to continue.  My tendency to overly worry about myself and my comfort are one of the reasons I love worship, and why it's so powerful on a personal level. Worship is not about me; worship is about God.
In worship I remember who God is, and God's right and worth to be praised.  I remember what God has done - in my life and in the history of humanity - and has promised.  I am reminded of a story that's beyond me but that includes me.  In worship I also get to share life with others - cry, laugh, hear a word that pushes me, but one that always gives hope.   We're reminded of our corporate identity as a people who follow God, but who cannot and should not do that alone.  We learn from each other and gain from each other's experiences and distinct journeys.  Worship is in fact the central act of the people of God.   Worship, however, (thankfully!) is not about me - and yet on a personal level there's nothing that renews and refreshes my soul like singing praises to God, hearing the Word proclaimed, and gathering at the Table of grace with you all.
As we continue our dialogue about worship and the way that God is breathing new life into our services, how can we make worship more God and other-centered?  How are we at welcoming God and others?
Please join me this week in praying:
For peace in the Middle East;
For the persecuted church - in Iraq, China, & around the world;
For our Yoots who are away on mission trips this week;
For our immigration crisis and all children and families, beloved by God, who are currently separated;
For those who are enslaved;
For those mourning the loss of loved ones;
For those who are sick;
For those who are depressed;
For our church- universal and local;
For our community;
For those who are in prison;
For those who are hungry;
For the homeless in our community;
For our enemies.(Esther)

A Word from Rev. Aaron:  I am looking forward to the 6:35 service in the chapel tomorrow night and the latest sermon in our series Unity from our ministerial intern, Shane McIntosh, titled The Spirit's Witness and Work. I am also looking forward to Rev. Esther's sermon on the biblical Esther and having the privilege of leading music again this Sunday. Hope to see you in worship!
I have heard from a few of you about your interest in a photography small group but would love to hear from more. And, be on the lookout for an exciting photographic opportunity later this summer being coordinated by Trinity's Art Exhibit Committee! One more thing, I plan to lead a daytime Christian Believer class this fall but need to decide between offering a Sunday afternoon class or a weekday class. If interested, please e-mail me to let me know you are interested and what your preference would be. Have a great week!

Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) which provides shelter and comprehensive support for homeless families with children.  Families are housed in area houses of worship, where congregation members provide meals, transportation, and companionship for the guest families.  Staff members of IHN provide comprehensive case management, including counseling, assistance in locating jobs, medical care, day care and school placement, and ultimately affordable housing.
Important Date Change!
