SCRIPTURE: May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace, as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.[Romans 15:13]
Every day I carry around a bag. One of the things inside my bag is my planner, and as the mother of two young children it is jammed packed. Something else in my bag is my prayer journal filled with petitions of our fallen and broken world; a young father fighting for his life, cancer, addiction, suicide, miscarriage, illness, loss of job, divorce, and the list goes on. My phone with its constant alerts and unanswered emails, texts, and voice mails can also be found in that bag. The bag is heavy.
The secret weapon inside that makes it “lighter” is my Bible. It is dog-eared, highlighted, underlined, torn, and coffee stained. But it is my continual reminder that no matter what is going on around me, HE is my Prince of Peace. He brings light into this dark world. And my Father loves me so much that he will pick me up in his arms and carry my bag and me. But, I do need to turn towards him and ask for help.
What are you hauling around in your “bag” today? How many bags are you trying to carry? Pause and ask him to carry your load. I promise, no matter how heavy, he won’t drop you.
PRAYER: Father God, We are all weighted down by this broken world. Help us to trust you with our luggage. Fill us with your everlasting joy and peace. Amen
