FY2016 President's Budget
President Barack Obama released the FY2016 Budget on Monday which outlined several priorities of interest to older Americans and family caregiving advocates.
Increased Funding for Family Caregiver Programs The proposal reverses sequestration to increase funding for the National Family Caregiver Support Program to $150 million, Lifespan Respite Program to $5 million, and the Native American Caregiver Support Program to $7 million. The Aging and Disability Resource Centers funding would increase to $20 million (from $6 million in 2015).
New Family Caregiver Support Among the new initiatives is a proposal to create a Family Caregiver Support program through the Administration for Community Living. This would provide new resources for caregivers of older adults and persons with disabilities across the lifespan. The $15 million initiative would support education and skill development, emotional and social supports, and goods and services. Read more on page 105 of the ACL FY 2016 Justification.
A fact sheet of the President's aging and disability-related initiatives can be found here.
