Tuesday Word for Tuesday, 19 May 2015 Trinity United Methodist Church of Gainesville, Florida, United States

Worship: Sundays @ 8:15 am, 9:40 am, 11:00 am | Wednesdays @ 6:35 pm | Fridays @ 7:00 pm

Dear Friends,
The book I mentioned on Sunday is: Run With The Horses, The Quest for Life at Its Best, by Eugene Peterson (Translator of The Message). It's an outstanding book, one you can get through our bookstore; Kim either has it or will order it for you. And here's some more great news: The 11:00 Sunday School Class, "Family Business," led by Steve and Elise Caton begins a study of this book on Sunday, May 31. You might want to check it out. Related to our series on Creation and the Majesty of God, I mention that Trinity member, Dr. Jim Ivey's book: The Physics and Philosophy of The Bible is available in our bookstore.
This coming Sunday is Memorial Day weekend, but it's also a hugely important day in the life of The Church; it's Pentecost Sunday! And the color is red. Rev. Aaron will be continuing our Sermon Series on God's Creation and the Creation of the Church - at the 8:15 and 9:40 services (Sit Together Sunday). At 11:00, we will have the joy of the return of Bobbi and Jim Korner. Jim, former director of Chancel Choir, will be doing some special music with Janet, and Bobbi will bring one of her remarkable Dramatic Presentations, "Seeking the Spirit." Bobbi is the Dean of the College or Arts and Architecture at Penn State. You'll want to be in worship for sure.
Welcome back to the guys who went on the adult ASP; they had a great time building houses in Appalachia.
We're now officially taking orders for "Brick Engravings" for our new Welcome Center. You can contact Tammy (416-3005), or fill out the form online to get yours reserved.
God bless, Dan

Rev. Esther's Blog
Blessed May to you all. I can't believe we're already in the third week of this month; time is flying by. I know this is a month where there are many activities going on, but if you are free on Saturday, May 30 at 3 pm. I hope you'll come by the Youth building. Mark your calendars. We'll be showing the documentary 'Food Chain#39; -- a film about agricultural labor in the United States. We hope to have a representative of the group presented in the film here to answer questions and to share how we can support fair working conditions.
Rev. Aaron will be preaching at the 6:35 service this Wednesday, and Coffee Talk for Young Adults will meet in the chapel after the service. A Word from Rev. Aaron
Rev. Aaron's blog
This week, I look forward to preaching at the 6:35 service on Wednesday (Standing In The Gap - Ezekiel 22:30and John 7:53-8:11) and the 8:15 and 9:40 services on Sunday (From Creation To The Church - Acts 2:1-21). Hope to see you there!
I also hope you have been enjoying your RightNow Media subscriptions! We are very close to 700! I was so excited to hear at lunch yesterday about a Sunday morning small group doing a video study together, which is precisely what I hoped would happen. As for me, in addition to the programs my kids watch, I'll be using RightNow Media as part of the pre-marital counseling I do with couples. How are you using it? I'd love to hear from you so please send me an e-mail. Have a great week!
Missions

This week's Mission Box is for the Mission Trip Scholarship Fund. Trinity has a scholarship fund to assist people in participating in short-term mission trips. This type of service leads to spiritual growth, expanded world views, and can inspire career choices towards mission and church work. In addition to their own spiritual growth through mission service, scholarship recipients do post-trip presentations which also expand mission awareness and involvement with others. Help build a missional foundation for the church by assisting more individuals to serve on mission trips.
Mark your calendar for Sunday, June 14 for the next blood drive here at Trinity.
We Need Your Help: The Bogo bins are getting very low on food. Next time you go by the store please consider getting some extra food for those food ministries we support.
Faith Mission
Ward Simonton
Faith Mission, located at 3701 NE 15th Street, is a church and neighborhood collaboration. Last Friday we participated in the Rawlings Elementary Carnival and it was a great outreach event - many thanks to Johnnie and Gail Dennard, Earl Fisher, Vickie Leggett, Gina Simonton and Melanie Kretzmann (representing SNAP), for being great ambassadors as we gave out carnival tickets, provided special gift bags put together by Girls on the Run, and used surveys to help us gather information from parents. Earlier in the week we continued our visits with churches, including Passage Family Church and Greenhouse Church - helping us learn who is doing what in the Faith Mission neighborhood and identify potential partnering opportunities.
This week at Faith Mission:
Faith Mission now has a supply of emergency food bags thanks to Jackie Oliver and John Barli of Catholic Charities. Over time the plan is for Trinity groups to help resupply these food bags and also help supply bags of hygiene and cleaning supplies.
We're exploring the need for UF's Mobile Outreach Clinic to return to the neighborhood on a regular basis. We are helping UF identify the level of need through various outreach events.
To help Faith Mission identify programs we may want to host or support in the neighborhood we will continue to meet with organizations that are doing positive things in the community.
We continue to work on facility improvements, with remaining items that include certain furnishings, A/V equipment, and replacement of exterior doors.

Stepping Stones Preschool
Jan Banks
Stepping Stones made a "splash" this year learning about the wonderful world of water. With your help, we raised enough money to buy a clean water well in El Salvador and send a teacher and a parent on a mission trip to build it! We enjoyed special events about fresh water, water pollution, and water conservation. We participated in themed days, such as Frozen and Shower Power, where teachers encouraged discovery through science experiments and exploration!
As we conclude another wonderful school year, we praise God for the blessings He has bestowed upon us as educators and as a school. We pray Christ will continue to use our Christian preschool as a dwelling place for His Holy Spirit, and a facility for His love. We thank the congregation of TUMC for their support of this vibrant ministry!
During the summer, the school office will be open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9am-1pm. Although we are at full capacity for next year, we would be happy to place you on the waiting list and answer any questions you may have. We are already anticipating a new school theme for next year...God's BIG Backyard; where we plan to use our five senses discovering God's wonders right in our own backyard!
