Weekly eNote from Pastor Scott Chrostek - Friday, 22 May 2015 from the Resuurrection Downtown United Methodist Church
Greetings RezDowntowners,
It has been good to spend the entire week back in Kansas City and what a week it has been! This has been a week filled with weddings. As of tonight I will have officiated 3 weddings in 6 days, it has been an awesome week! One of the reasons I love presiding over weddings is that it gives you an opportunity to focus on characteristics of God’s love for us. One of the things I like to say at weddings is how God’s love has a way of making sense out of non-sensical beginnings. I don’t know about you, but for me, I have a hard time seeing things for what they really are as they are happening, but it’s only after waiting awhile that I begin to see how God has been working to weave things together, our lives, our relationships, our trials and triumphs for our good. As couples stand before a congregation on the day of their wedding, you almost always catch a glimpse of this, because what often began as a chance encounter or a run of the mill introduction somehow evolves into a gathering (a wedding celebration) that one could not and would not imagine life without. This is how God’s love works for us. Have you ever experienced something like this before?
This weekend marks the unofficial beginning of summer with pools opening all throughout the city and the school year coming to a close. As a way of marking that, I am going to be preaching live and spending time focusing on what to do during the in between times, the times when we’re waiting for things to transition, to move from nonsense into perfect sense. It is also Pentecost Sunday which marks the end of a 50-day period of time following Easter Sunday, when the disciples were in this place, they were waiting in the darkness behind locked doors wondering what was next for them. Have you ever found yourself to be in one of these periods before? Like your stuck wondering what your next step is going to be? This weekend we’ll be talking about what to do in these moments and how God meets us there and, perhaps, how God reserves his best work for places like these. I hope you’ll join me and invite your friends to do so as well. It will be a family friendly weekend as we will only have childcare available for kids four and under. Everyone else is invited to be together in worship!
