How to Identify the Cadre of Effective Leaders in Your Organization
It's tempting to believe that the larger an organization grows, the larger the pool of vital leaders. While it's true that the number of leaders must scale with an organization, most operate according to the rule of the few.
Simply put, most of the productivity comes from a few effective leaders, and the majority of important decisions are made by a few visionary leaders.
That means the secret to success is learning to identify the relatively few effective leaders and generating influence with them.
- Who are the up-and-coming leaders in your organization? Perhaps the following questions will help you decide.
- Who consistently meets or exceeds expectations?
- Who is generating the most new ideas?
- In what area of the organization is morale highest? Who's the leader there?
- Who has the best outlook and attitude?
- Where do new people seem to gravitate?
- Who is willing to put action to their ideas, even if that means risking failure?
- Who seems most enthusiastic about new projects?
- What's the latest win everyone is talking about? Who is the leader responsible?
- Who is the least afraid to speak up to challenge an idea or initiative?
- Who consistently seeks new responsibilities and opportunities?
Invest some time and effort to help emerging leaders reach their goals. Listen to their dreams for their own lives and for the organization. Learn from them.
Woodrow Wilson said, "I not only use all the brains that I have, but all that I can borrow." Great leaders are more than willing to borrow ideas and expertise, especially from those who are proving themselves successful.
When you find the few effective, enthusiastic, visionary leaders who are making the most difference in your organization and encourage, empower, and equip them, you will multiply their effectiveness and the entire organization will thrive.[Stan Toler]

After a trip to PNG in 1998, Dr. Todd Winter knew that moving his family there was not part of God's plan for them, but he also knew he wanted to help.
Back in the states, he started collecting medical supplies, equipment and medicines from hospitals, pharmaceutical companies and other donors. Dr. Todd would start sending these donations to the Nazarene Hospital in Kudjip. And so...Nazarene Hospital Foundation (NHF) was born.
Dr. Todd Winter - Founder Nazarene Hospital Foundation
Over the past 13 years, NHF has sent Nazarene Healthcare Ministries more than 26 containers full of medical supplies.
Through various companies and organizations in the US, NHF is able to get boxes and boxes of medicines for minimal to no charge. Medicines that would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, are obtained for a few hundred dollars - saving the hospital TONS of money in the process.
$10 of support to NHF can supply the hospital with $1500 worth of medicines.

SOME ARE CALLED TO GO… SOME ARE CALLED TO SEND. A PARTNERSHIP HIGHLIGHT!
Papua New Guinea (PNG): Kudjip Nazarene Hospital is the only remaining hospital in the Church of the Nazarene. Our hospital receives support from the government of Papua New Guinea, from individual donors, from the Church of the Nazarene and through amazing partners like the Nazarene Hospital Foundation (NHF).
Dr. Todd Winter, Founder Nazarene Health FoundationNHF was started by Dr. Todd Winter after he came to PNG in 1998. While he was compelled by what he saw and wanted to help, he and his family felt that moving to PNG to serve wasn’t part of God’s plan for them, instead the plan included supporting the work of the hospital through Nazarene Hospital Foundation.

Dr. Winter and NHF collect medical supplies, equipment, medicines, and more from hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, and other donors. Todd and his NHF crew work to sort through the donations and find what is most needed for us at Kudjip. This incredible team of partners then loads 20-foot containers and sends them across the ocean to Papua New Guinea.
Over the past 13 years, NHF has sent Nazarene Healthcare Ministries more than 26 containers full of medical supplies.

Life saving medical supplies and equipment
The medical supplies are a LIFESAVER to us. They supplement what the government gives us. While the government supplies us with many essential medicines and supplies, it is hard to have all the medicines and supplies that a country of 7+ million people need, so at times the Government runs out of things. When we are short, we have to ask ourselves, “How important is that piece of equipment, or supply, or medicine?” Then we consider whether we have the funds to purchase what is needed. Sometimes we need it and we order it and sometimes we need it, but don’t have the money to buy it so we wait, praying that the Lord will answer our prayers and provide for the need.

Critically needed medicines
Thanks to NHF, many times we don’t have to go any further than our own storeroom to replenish our supply. Over the course of the past 13 years, Dr. Todd and his team have developed a list of items that we use regularly and they work to keep us in stock of those items. Gauze, gloves, catheters, IV cannulas, sutures, orthopedic braces, and Ultrasound Gel are just a few of the supplies we regularly need.

Unloading the containers and delivering the supplies.
Beyond medical supplies, a typical container will be about 50% full of critical medicines. Dr. Bill and patient
These medicines are vital to our pharmacy and the care we are able to provide. We frequently run out of common things like Ibuprofen, Tylenol and antibiotics. The donated medicines keep us going when our supplies are short. These medicines have saved many lives! Everything from antibiotics to treat pneumonia, pain medicine to treat arthritis, blood pressure medicine to reduce the risk of strokes and heart attacks, blood thinners when patients are suffering from blood clots, and so much more!
Why do we passionately serve our community through holistic health care? So that the door is opened to introduce our patients to the true physician, Jesus Christ, who brings everlasting healing!
Without NHF support, we wouldn’t be able to serve all those we serve, as well as we do. The patient care we give has a reputation in PNG as being very good. We wouldn’t have that reputation if we didn’t have all the supplies and medicines that NHF provides.

NHF needs your help. They can’t do what they do without financial support. $10 of support to NHF can supply the hospital with $1500 worth of medicines. I don’t know of a place that can get a better return on your dollar than that. If you would like to help NHF and Kudjip Nazarene Hospital – go here.

Update on Crisis Situation in Papua New Guinea
Papua New Guinea

Tensions have been running high in the Capital City of Port Moresby. International news agencies have been reporting on the conflict. We are requesting your committed prayer for a peaceful resolution.
Following is the update from our field leadership team:
"We are aware of reports of violence and unrest in certain cities in PNG. We would like to report that all Nazarene Mission personnel are safe and secure. In addition procedures are in place to help ensure continued safe operations at Kudjip mission station, Tuman college campus (MNTC, MNBC) and for those personnel traveling into our area.
We welcome you to join us in prayer for this challenging time and that our staff and leadership would have continued wisdom to deal with situations as they arise."
*** Update as of Friday, June 10, 7 pm local PNG time.
"While there are many issues yet to be worked out among the leaders of Papua New Guinea, indication is that the unrest that's been occurring over the last couple of days is settling down and that activities are beginning to return to normal. We continue to value your prayers for the people of PNG, especially for the leadership of this country."[PNG Crisis Management Team (CMT).]

More than 100 delegates from 30 local churches spread across nine different zones in the Java-Bali District attended the 5th LC (Leaders Camp) May 5-7, 2016.
This year's LC was not only focused on leadership development, but was also a time to encourage the young leaders to be more loyal to the ministry of the church as their home and to help other youth in their local churches. Our hope is that the leaders grew in the Lord and will start looking for ways to engage their local churches and communities.
The camp included some fun as well. On the 2nd night they had a bond fire and had a "Got Talent" show with everything from singing to acting to stand up comedy.

EQUIPPING THE NEXT GENERATION…JAVA-BALI DISTRICT HOLDS LEADER’S CAMP!
Indonesia: On May 5 -7, 2016, the Nazarene Youth International (NYI) Java-Bali District held an event called “LEADERS CAMP (LC)” for young leaders from all around Java-Bali. This is an annual program of NYI Java-Bali District. It serves as an implementation of our mission strategy “GO” and is also a wonderful forum for empowering and equipping young leaders in Java-Bali.

This was the 5th LC held by the Java Bali District and was certainly challenging but also an attractive event, because unlike the previous camps, we were on a hillside with temperatures between 10-15 Celsius (50-59 °F) at night (the normal temperature is about 25-30 degrees Celsius or 77-86 °F). So while for us, the temperature was very cold, it became warm because of the unity of all leaders .
This year’s LC was not only focused on leadership development, but was also a time to encourage the young leaders to be more loyal to the ministry of the church as their home and to help other youth in their local churches. Our hope is that the leaders grew in the Lord and will start looking for ways to engage their local churches and communities.

More than 100 delegates from 30 local churches spread across nine different zones in the Java-Bali District (Jakarta, Cilacap, Boyolali, Yogyakarta, Klaten, Solo Raya, JTU, East Java, and Bali) attended the event. The participants were between 13 – 30 years old. All who attended currently serve as NYI Presidents or are young potential leaders who are expected to become the next generation of local youth leaders.

Assertive Leader
The first day we began with a seminar titled, “assertive leader,” encouraging young leaders to speak up, express opinions and to communicate actively. In this session, participants were divided into several groups and given some relevant cases that might be found in the church. Each group was asked to provide solutions to the problems. These were very exciting activities and all participants engaged in giving their opinions and arguments until finally the individual groups agreed on one solution to be presented.

This session was followed by an evangelistic service in the evening to restore the commitment of young leaders in their ministries.

Relationship Building
The second day of the LC was also a great day. The participants engaged in team building activities designed not only to enhance cooperation and leadership in the group, but also to build lasting relationships. It was powerful to see young leaders from many different backgrounds across the district, coming together with mutual cooperation and support for one another.

Leaders Leading Leaders
After the team building activities, the council organized 6 different “break-out” sessions led by NYI Java-Bali youth who are competent in their fields. The speakers in the seminars shared experiences gained from serving in various NYI leadership roles and ministries. This activity not only provided material for leadership development, but also provided an opportunity for leaders to lead upcoming leaders.

“Got Talent”
The Second day closed with a campfire service. There was a special unity when all participants sat around the campfire. At that time, all participants were given an opportunity to perform their talents in a talent show. Some sang, some acted, and still others did standup comedy. Just like the “Got Talent” tv enterprise, there were 4 judges to give comments and scores. That was a joyful and happy event.

The winner of this contest was a group performing an arrangement of a beautiful song that tells about how the love of God is started in a simple way and simple place, that is, in our own room; the place where we pray, read the Bible, and preserve holiness when we are alone.
Go – Move and Encourage!
On the closing of the LC, there was great happiness and excitement and wonderful unity, but also some sadness because participants had to say good bye to one another. Before they left, Java-Bali District Superintendent, Rev. Obaja Sigit Karyono, led the closing worship and benediction. He brought a strong and clear message “GO! Move and encourage people in your field, which is your local church.”

It was a privilege to be able to connect with our global and regional NYI leaders. We are blessed to have wonderful leaders that are always supporting us. Thank you to Rev. Bakhoh Jatmiko (NYI Field Coordinator), Rev. Obaja Sigit (District Superintendent) and Rev. Larry West (Sealand Field Coordinator), and special thanks also to all Reverends in Java-Bali.[Submitted by Wendy Prima Pasaribu (Java-Bali District NYI President)][Download Equipping the Next Generation...Java-Bali District Holds Leader's Camp! as PDF]

Sponsored Child
As a child sponsor, you are helping change a child's story from one of poverty to one of possibility and hope!
But thousands of children in our system are still waiting for a sponsor who wants to be part of their story. That's why we're asking sponsors around the world to share about child sponsorship with your church on Child Sponsorship Sunday, June 12. (And if that date doesn't work, you can choose an alternate date.)

Child Sponsorship Sunday - Nazarene Compassionate Ministries
Will you be an advocate for children in need?
The following video tells you more about how you can participate in Child Sponsorship Sunday.

Hear Nazarene broadcasters tell your people the latest news, stories of lives transformed, and ways to pray for World Mission Broadcast in a "Personalized WMB Audio Greeting."
The greetings are a perfect way to bring the voice of WMB into the midst of your church service, Faith Promise gathering, or NMI convention.

As General Assembly 2017 draws closer and planning increases by the day, the Church of the Nazarene's General Secretary's Office requests opinions from Nazarenes around the world on their expectations for the event.
The denomination's 29th General Assembly and Conventions are 21-30 June 2017 in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA.

The Graduate Certificate in Intercultural Studies (15 credits) is intended both for those preparing for cross-cultural service and for those already in cross-cultural ministry who would be helped by continuing education.
All subjects are offered for 3-hours graduate credit that may be transferred to other APNTS programs.
