Weekly eNote from Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday, June 24, 2016 from The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown  in Kansas City, Missouri, United States for Friday, 24 June 2016
Greetings RezDowntowners,
What a fantastic week it has been. Vacation Bible Camp filled our buildings with energy, enthusiasm and a childlike joy all week long. It was an awesome week! I want to thank every one of you who volunteered, served and made a difference in our kids’ lives this past week! The church was filled with laughter and song! The children learned about the Bible and the Royals who ruled long ago. Sarah Brischle did an amazing job coordinating the whole week and the staff, the church and the community are grateful for your willingness to guide, lead and love one another. We look forward to next year when we hope also to take VBC out into the community and beyond our church building! Get ready!
Secondly, I wanted to share that tomorrow we'll be sharing in a great afternoon of worship at the Healing House (4400 Saint John Ave.). Starting at noon tomorrow, I (along with two other leaders) will be leading a large service of immersion baptism and remembrance of baptism. There are currently over 43 people who have signed up to be immersed (baptized) in a large pool located behind the Healing House and I want to invite you to join them! It is going to be an amazing day. Glory Revival will be playing music, there will be hot dogs, and God’s Spirit will be moving in an amazing way. If you are interested in baptism, or remembering your baptism, please consider joining me out there. Also, if you are looking to simply come and witness this great moment in worship, you are welcome too…it is going to be a great Saturday, things will kick off at Noon.
Lastly, as we conclude our sermon series on The Gospel According to Dogs this weekend, we’ll be celebrating the community by hosting a Hot Dog Cookout on Sunday after all of our worship services. Invite friends, bring some lawn chairs and join us in worship this Sunday to be a part of summer in the city! I hope to see all of you there!
In the meantime, here are several ways to get connected to the life of this church:RezRidersDT will ride again this Saturday, June 25, meeting at 8:45 am from the 1522 McGee parking lot to leave at 9am. This will be a 90-minute, no-drop ride in the city. All levels of experience are welcome, and we will divide up if appropriate. Email Marilyn Hutchinson at mhutchinsonpsych@aol.com to indicate your interest and to receive future notices. RezRidersDT facebook page will post pictures. For more information, visit cor.org/downtown/RezRidersDT.
RezLifeDT – Middle School Students: This Wednesday, June 29, join other middle schoolers as we meet at 1522 McGee at 6 pm to be shuttled to the RezWest campus for outdoor water games! Pick-up time is 9 pm at 1522 McGee. Every Wednesday during the summer, RezLifeDT will be meeting at 1522 McGee to participate in summer fun activities here and around town! Bring a friend and meet at RezDT on Wednesdays! Check out the schedule at cor.org/downtown/RezLife or pick up a printed copy at Connection Point or upstairs in KiDSCOR.
Theology, Literature & Race – Starting this Thursday, June 30 at 7 pm, join the discussion with this 4-week study as we explore issues of race through selected essays, dialogue and, most importantly, grace. Join us this first week at Centennial United Methodist Church at (1834 Woodland Ave., KCMO). This study will take place in partnership with Centennial UMC and will be led by Rev. Dr. Jeff Williams, Associate Pastor, Centennial UMC and Professor of Literature at The University of Central Missouri, along with Matt Bisel, student of Saint Paul School of Theology. Classes will alternate between Centennial UMC and RezDowntown at 1522 McGee. Registration for this class is required and limited. To register or for questions, visit cor.org/downtown/theologyandrace or contact Matt.Bisel@cor.org.
SWAT Brunch Club – RezDowntown’s SWAT (35-and-older Singles With A Twist) group will meet one week later in July than usual, on Sunday, July 10 at 12:30 pm at Nick & Jake's (5031 Main, KCMO). Join the group for great food and fellowship. Confirm your attendance on our SWAT Group Facebook page or contact Dee Ann Heptas at deeannheptas@gmail.com or 304-888-4205 if you don’t have Facebook access. I am off today to prepare for a wedding tonight, but I am continually reminded of how thankful I am to be serving here in Kansas City. Seven years ago today, Wendy and I moved to Kansas City on what was the hottest day of the year. This week's heat has reminded me of that and then as I've been present and leading at VBC and preparing for 43 baptisms tomorrow and getting ready to do my 8th wedding of just this year, I can't help but reflect over how much God has done and what a privilege it is to live fully into his call to transform the heart of the city! I am thankful for you, for this community and for sharing the journey with this city through RezDowntown!
Have a great Friday and I'll see you in worship for some hot dogs!!!
Blessings,
Scott
