Resurrection Blue Springs,
I know many of you are tuned in to the weather as Hurricane Matthew prepares to hit our coastline today. Our prayers go out for those caught in its path. As we have established many partners in ministry in Haiti over the last several years, our Disaster Response and Global Impact Teams have been monitoring and evaluating the situation there since Hurricane Matthew made landfall there on Tuesday.
The current reports are guaranteed to be conservative as much of the country is cut-off from communication, but at this time 350,000 people are listed as in immediate need of assistance and over 100 deaths have been confirmed. The death toll is expected to rise, as aid workers are not yet able to access villages in the southern part of the country that have been flooded nearly to the point of non-existence. Beyond the initial devastation of homes, crops and livestock, the long-term dangers of disease and food insecurity will require significant recovery and rebuilding efforts for the people of Haiti.
At this time, Resurrection has committed $25,000 to Heart to Heart International to provide supplies for 2,500 care kits that will be shipped out to Haiti to help stop the spread of disease. Some of you are already helping with Christmas in October this Saturday morning but if you were unable to sign up you could join a team in packing hygiene care kits instead. The packing will take place at The Heart to Heart Hub located at 9650 Dice Lane, Lenexa, KS 66215. You can sign up to join either a 9:00am or 10:30am packing time on Saturday This is a great serve opportunity for those ages 5 and up! Please sign up here. Additionally, we have already scheduled trips to Haiti in 2017. For more information on those trips you can visit www.cor.org/haiti. Regetration for the February trip close in one week.
This Sunday I'm excited to begins our new series on "The Good Life." We read about it. Songs have been written about it and self help gurus earn millions offering the solutions to finding the Good life. But what did Jesus have to say about it? Jesus told his disciples that he came to show them the way to the good life. Over the next three weeks, we'll be exploring what Jesus said about the good life and the keys he gave to experiencing it. Join us this Sunday for the first sermon of the series, "Flat Abs and a White Picket Fence." Invite someone to worship with us too!
Be sure to take a close look at all the upcoming events and activities coming up . . .
