Weekly eNote from Pastor Jason Gant for Friday, 14 October 2016 from The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection West of Olathe, Kansas, United States

Weekly eNote from Pastor Jason Gant for Friday, 14 October 2016 from The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection West of Olathe, Kansas, United States
Resurrection West,
Way to go RezWest! You really hit a Home Run for Hunger by collecting over 400 bags of food (418). Your generous donations will help many who are in need this season. Bags were delivered to and gladly received by several local food pantries. This is more than 100 more than last year!
Last Sunday we blessed 45 third graders with their Bibles. They have been reading the Gospel of Mark, and through last week’s sermon, which you can view on our cor.org/west home page by clicking here, I invited all of us to read with them. I’ve been posting each day on instagram, twitter, and the RezWest Facebook group daily readings. Join in any time. This morning’s reading is Mark 3:13-35, where we learn Jesus’ teaching that “a house divided against itself cannot stand”. What a great reminder as we approach commitment Sunday. If you call Resurrection your church home, you received a letter from Pastor Adam and I this week along with a guide to giving and a commitment card to return with your financial pledge in the coming year. We are so grateful for your generosity so often multiplied by the Holy Spirit to enact the mission and vision God has for us here at Resurrection. Giving is our first act of worship and this Sunday, unified by the Spirit of God, we will bring them forward as an act of faith and sacrifice. If you can't be with us Sunday, you can complete your annual giving pledge online at cor.org/give. Please be sure to complete the West Campus pledge card. Many of our staff turned in their cards this week to lead the way setting an example for us all. If you are a visitor we do not expect a card from you, but greatly appreciate your giving to Kingdom work here at Resurrection West. We do this one Sunday every fall to develop our fiscal planning for the upcoming year. This is how we plan for the mission and ministry of our church. Please join Scharme, Hailey,Kaia, and I in praying over your pledge and submitting it to God this Sunday. We plan to increase our pledge for 2017 to increase the opportunity to expand ministry in and through the new building space we will be opening after Thanksgiving. This new building will give us opportunity to do even more creative ministry here in Western Johnson County and your sacrificial giving will make that happen! Thank you again for being so faithful and generous! I will be sharing a sermon around the [Re]framing of our lives as we seek to discover The Good Life God desires for us. It will be a great day of worship and commitment together!

The teams will work on light construction projects at the local school or in the community. Members of the May Serve trip will also visit sponsored children at the Compassion Center in Cabaret, Haiti.
Medical Serve Trip - September 16-23, 2017: Medical professionals (and a few non-medical professionals) needed to serve in Petit-Goave to not only assist the locals on much-needed healthcare, but to educate patients on chronic illnesses and preventative health opportunities.

Considering making RezWest your new Church home? Come have pizza with the pastors this Sunday, Oct. 16, from 12:30-2:30 pm and take the first step toward joining the church. Places to serve at Resurrection West
Hospitality Teams – Bring your amazing enthusiasm and bright smile and help us create a welcoming environment at Resurrection West. Coming up at the end of November, we will offer four worship services each Sunday. This opens up many new places to serve. The beauty of these volunteer opportunities is that you can serve 30 minutes before/after the worship service you normally attend. To sign up to serve as bulletin stuffer, communion volunteer, connection point greeter, coffee and refreshment volunteer, greeter, parking lot attendant, technical crew, usher or weekday data entry helper, contact Yolanda.Byers@cor.org.
Muggers Needed – Taking a coffee mug to a first-time visitor is a Resurrection tradition. First-time visitor households are identified via the attendance notebooks at each worship service; then by the end of the service, mugs are prepared for delivery by including the family name and a map to the house. We need muggers for Olathe, Shawnee, Lenexa, Desoto, Overland Park and the Lawrence area. Contact David.Robertson@cor.org for more information or to volunteer.
Volunteer for Upward Basketball – Serve as a coach, assistant coach or referee or work behind the scenes. Volunteering with Upward is a great way to help kids develop mentally, spiritually and socially. Sign up to be a part of this exciting ministry at cor.org/west/upward.

Finally, I wanted to celebrate our greatest Fall Festival to date. Well over 1800 people came for the party filled with games, trunk-or-treating, enough food for all, and a firework show reminding us to be light in the darkness! The Harvest Crew volunteers led by Kevin and Danielle Heikes poured their heart and soul into this event and you all did your part; you served, you invited, and you welcomed all with a smile as we introduced our church and our love for Jesus to this community! Well done Church. You can view some great pics on our Facebook page by clicking here.
Looking forward to making my commitment alongside you on Sunday,
Pastor Jason
