Hello Resurrection Blue Springs!
It’s been a busy week. We started off on Monday with our Serve Day in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.. Bill and I joined a large crew from across the church at My Father's House to sort, clean and recycle items for our furnishings ministry. We had another crew back at the church working on making sleeping mats for the homeless while our KiDSCOR families were out and about performing 'random acts of kindness." This week we also kicked off our marriage class and the online study for men. I personally spent two days in Salina with the clergy from our Great Plains conference for our yearly Orders and Fellowship. This is a time for learning, brainstorming and building relationships with other clergy who serve across our conference.
During our time together we had guest speakers, workshops and worship designed to focus on the entrepreneurial nature of the church and how to design more meaningful worship with young people. We also had an opportunity to get better acquainted with Bishop Ruben Saenz, Jr., our new Great Plains conference bishop. This was a call for us as churches and leaders to become more innovative in order to reach the people God has called us to in each of our particular settings. This focus dovetailed nicely with some of the dreaming and conversations our Rez Blue Springs leaders have been engaging in as we look toward our future. This time was encouragement to try new ideas and to expect that not all of them will have success but they will lead us to better things as we make ourselves available to God and willing to take risks for the sake of the gospel.
Today is a big day for our nation as Donald Trump is inaugurated as our 45th President. Last year’s contentious election created division amongst many diverse groups that was felt across our entire nation. We have all experienced the effects of this division-- at our work, within our families, even at church. I want to give a gentle reminder that, as followers of Christ, we are called to be united as one Church in our mission to reach the lost with the love of Christ. Thus, we as the church must set the tone and be the catalyst for unity. So let us consider our words well and be agents for unity and healing. Pray for our leaders and all those with power and influence, that they may use their platforms to heal instead of harm and to bring justice and mercy where it is needed most.
Join us Sunday as we continue our series, "Unafraid: Living with Courage and Hope." In this week's message, Pastor Adam will share ways to fight one of the most isolating fears: feeling unloved and alone. If you've been considering joining the church or would like more information about us, join me for Pizza with the Pastor at 12:15 pm after worship Finally, make sure to mark your calendar to join us next Friday night at 6 pm for our All Church Gathering where we'll be having a little fun with a chili cook off and celebration of this past year as well as looking ahead toward our future. If you make a mean pot of chili, bring a pot and enter it into our competition next Friday night.
