Weekly eNote from Pastor Jason Gant for Friday, 20 January 2017 from The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection West in Olathe, Kansas, United States
Resurrection West,
What an incredible day of serving this past Monday at MLK Mega Mission Day. Over 350 of you packaged 15,000 meals for Stop Hunger Now, packed 500 lunches for Kansas City area homeless, crafted many buddy-bears, valentines for vets, and more. Everyone was filled with joy and laughter serving together. You can see many great pics of the day on our Facebook page by clicking here. Thank you for serving with glad hearts as we seek to transform communities as a part of our vision here at Resurrection!
Pastor Adam continues in the Unafraid series this Sunday focusing on the fear of being alone and unloved. Each of us has felt this fear at some point in our lives and for some it can be absolutely paralyzing. The weather will be clear, so make plans now to be in worship on Sunday at 8am, 9:30am, 11am, and 5pm.
Please join me in welcoming our newest staff member, David Boss. David will be serving as our Audio Engineer at West. He recently moved here from the San Diego area with his wife, Kate, and son, George. David comes to us with 15 years AV experience and 8 years of ministry experience.
Next week we have two key events. The first is our Annual All-Church Conference hosted at RezWest…Annual All-Church Conference - Tuesday, January 24, 6:30pm. Receive updates and vote on important matters, including the approval of the 2017 operating budget, election of leaders for governance committees, and the recommendation of a pastoral candidate from the church. Everyone is welcome; however, only church members may vote. We are hosting this year’s meeting at RezWest, providing an opportunity for us to bring leaders from across the church for this important annual meeting. Registration not required. Childcare available. For questions, email Dan.Entwistle@cor.org.
And the second is our RezWest celebration gathering….RezWest Celebration Gathering - Friday, January 27, 6:30–8 pm. 2016 marked our 10th birthday as a Resurrection campus, and we have much to celebrate and much to envision in the coming year! All are invited to gather for a special night to celebrate what God has been doing this past year including testimonies, presentations, Pastor Adam via video and more! Pastor Jason will lead us in a time of vision casting for the next 10 years, with a special focus for 2017. A catered, kid-friendly meal will be provided, and we will have a dessert contest with Pastor Jason and Pastor Chris graciously agreeing to judge the home made sweet treats you bring in! Childcare will be provided along with a special program for elementary-aged children. Don’t miss this event as we get excited for the coming year of mission and ministry! Register now at cor.org/west/signup.
The Celebration Gathering will be an exciting night together, so please go register now at cor.org/west/signup as we celebrate 2016 and dream God-sized dreams for 2017! If you are interested in making RezWest your Church home, we’d love to welcome you to Coffee with the Pastors coming up on January 29th…
Coffee with the pastors - Jan. 29th 3:00-5:00pm. Join Pastor Jason and Pastor Chris to learn about Resurrection’s history, United Methodism, expectations of membership, and ways to connect, grow, and serve at RezWest. Childcare is available. Register at cor.org/west/coffee
Finally, I'm at home watching the inauguration this morning (I caught the bug thats been going around, so I’m not feeling so great). I wanted to say a word of thank you to the Obama’s and the Biden’s for their service to the country. As Donald Trump takes the oath of office this morning, I am reminded of our great heritage of democracy here in the United States. No matter the political view you may take, I want to encourage you to join me in praying for wisdom for our next President. I believe in the power of prayer and consider it an act of faith to pray for our leaders. May we also continue to seek ways that we, both individually and as a faith community, can serve God by serving others - living out our faith in both word and deed. I find that when I become critical or judgmental of someone else, it is an important time to look within myself and assess how I am doing at living the fruits of the Holy Spirit - as the apostle Paul described in Galatians 5;
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other. Galatians 5:22-26 (NIV)
May we live such a great example of these characteristics that our very life example becomes testimony to God's transforming power!
Looking forward to worshiping with you on Sunday,
Pastor Jason
