Lenten Sermon Series. Pastor Cleaver's next sermon series, A New Beginning, starts March 5th. Sermons include:

Wednesday Night Live. Our exploration of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation continues. Led by Dr. 3 and the Pastoral Team, we wrestle with what the bible says, the cultural context, people, places of the time and what it means for us today. Join us next Wednesday, March 8th when we will discuss Genesis 16-19. Join us at 7 p.m. in the Ministry Mall.
Palm Sunday. Congressman Emanuel Cleaver II will preach his annual Palm Sunday sermon April 9th. Mark your calendars now!
WORSHIP MINISTRIES
The Lord's Supper. We need twelve men to participate in the Maundy Thursday re-enactment of the Last Supper Thursday, April 13th. The Other Twelve Disciples. We are currently seeking twelve inspiring women to participate in our Holy Week presentation. Little Vessel Ushers and Youth Ushers. Children ages 5-11 and youth ages 12-18 serve as ushers every 3rd Sunday during 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. worship. No experience needed - on the job training is provided. The uniform is a white button down shirt and black slacks or skirt. FAITH DEVELOPMENT
Lenten Devotions. Our supply of daily Lenten devotionals has sold out. An e-book is available to download at www.cokesbury.com for 99 cents.
Prayer Conference. Our annual Conference, The Power of Prayer is this Saturday, March 4th from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. This year's speakers are Dr. Cleaver III, Pastor Leland Thomas, Minister Danielle Quinn and Apostle Lorraine Williams. Topics include: The Importance of Prayer, Fit for Combat, War and Battle, Maneuvering in the Spirit and Teaching Youth to Pray. The workshop is FREE, but please register online.
Farewell Reception. On Tuesday, March 7th at 6:30 p.m. we will have a reception in the Ministry Mall in honor of our Associate Pastors Elmer Cunningham, Andre Fulton, Laurice Valentine and John Macklin. Please come out and show your appreciation for their great work. Light refreshments will be served.
Journey Growth Group. Sessions begin this Sunday, March 5th at 9:45 a.m. in the Boardroom on the first floor. Has God put something on your heart to do or accomplish? Are you struggling with where you are at in your life? Come join our Journey class and learn different techniques to hold yourself accountable for God's vision in your life. Over the course of six weeks, you will learn, step by step, how to build a Journey board and watch GOD's grace work through you. Supplies needed to participate: poster board, index cards and a Bible. Couples Class. This Sunday School class for married and engaged couples meets Sundays at 9:45 a.m in Room 2D. We're reading Anger: Taming a Powerful Emotion, by Dr. Gary Chapman. This series will help you and your spouse experience and respond to anger in a way that pleases the Lord AND help prevent conflict, resentment and unforgiveness in your relationship. Bible Study at Renaissance. Join us Tuesday nights at 6:30 p.m. for bible study at the Renaissance Campus. There is food, fellowship and the Word. Come out and grow with your church family!
Senior Fitness & Bible Study. Join us at the Paseo Campus every Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. for light to moderate exercise done from the comfort of a chair! A trained fitness expert will guide you through exercises that help strengthen you, and the fellowship will help motivate you. Then, stay for Senior Bible Study from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and get strengthened in the spirit! Feel free to bring a dish and join us in the potluck lunch following our study time.

CONGREGATIONAL CARE
Christian Sympathy is extended to Earline Nelson and Debbie Rice at the passing of their husband and brother-in-law, James Patrick Nelson.
Encouragement Cards. In today's digital world, the simple act of sending a greeting card has become a rare act of care and kindness. Receiving cards makes people feel special and loved. We are excited to announce the resumption of the Encouragement Card initiative. On the first Sunday of each month, bring a get well or encouragement card for persons on the prayer list to the church. Sign your name on the card and feel free to add some words of encouragement. Please print the person's full name on the envelope, along with your return address. The cards can be dropped in the Encouragement Card box in the hallway. CONNECTING MINISTRIES
Pancake Breakfast. The United Methodist Men are sponsoring an all you can eat Chris Cakes breakfast next Sunday, March 12 from 9:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Tickets are $7.00 for adults and $5.00 under age 12. All proceeds support our Scouts' efforts to attend camp this summer. Tickets are available from any Scout and at the Welcome Center after worship.
"Brain Wise" Please join UMW in the Fellowship Hall (lower level) on Sunday, March 12th at 9:30 a.m. for "Brain-Wise" with Carolyn J. Cottrell, Ph. D (Brain-Wiser LLC). The brain is the CEO of the body, and as such, the source of planning, remembering, loving, sensing, and surviving. In this interactive presentation, participants will learn some brain health basics such as how to take care of your brain, optimize your brain power, melt chronic stress (the #1 enemy), and more.
Father-Daughter Dance. Tickets are now available for the 20th Annual Father-Daughter Dance. All ages are invited. Join usSaturday, March 25th from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. The cost is $30.00 per father (daughters are free). Tickets are available at the Welcome Center or by contacting Michael Hobson at 913-461-1100.
Connectors Needed. Volunteers are needed to assist at the Welcome Center each Sunday. Duties include assisting with electronic giving, registration for church events and activities, providing information, etc. Connectors at 8 a.m. worship are asked to serve from 7:30 a.m. - 10 a.m. Connectors at 11 a.m. worship are asked to serve from 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Volunteer once each quarter or as your schedule allows. Welcome Center. The HeBrews, Hospitality and Membership Teams have partnered to create an inviting welcome area for members and guests in the Narthex (outside the sanctuary). Stop by to:

  • Update contact information, register or volunteer 
  • Take advantage of convenient, electronic giving 
  • HeBrews Fellowship. The Volunteers in Mission (VIM) Team will sponsor a special HeBrews Fellowship Sunday, March 5th at 9:30 a.m. A full HeBrews will be held every 3rd Sunday (or special Sunday) in the Ministry Mall between worship celebrations. NEXT GENERATION MINISTRIES
40-140. Lent begins Wednesday, March 1st. We will share in a season of spiritual practices this year. Students will be led through 40 days of practices to follow in engaging with God. We will also offer 40-140 again, which is 40 days of devotional readings no more than 140 characters long. Please make sure you have registered for the 40-140 text messages by texting "rage" to 40650. More info to come.
Scouting Ministry
Cub Scouts (Grades 1-5) will meet every 1st and 3rd Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in Kidz Kingdom.
Boy Scouts (Ages 11-18) meeting Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Kidz Kingdom. Contact Roosevelt Braxton at 816-305-2656.

COMMUNITY NEWS
Cleaver Senior Living Community. The 40 Acres Team will begin holding monthly meetings Tuesday, March 7th (and every 1st Tuesday) at 6 p.m. You can get answers to your questions, receive progress updates, etc. Contact Sam Coleman, Sr. at samcoleman@sbcglobal.net for more information.
Kansas City Boys Choir. Do you know a young man ages 8-15 who enjoys music and loves to sing and dance? If so, the Boys Choir might be the place for him! Join us Sunday, March 18thfrom 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. at our headquarters (One W Armour Blvd, Suite 16, KCMO 64111) in the US Bank building. Be a member for a day. Who knows? It may last longer because we're more than just a choir!
