Deaf Devo for Friday, 3 March 2017 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States "God All-Powerful" Bible Reading: Genesis 17:1-2
Genesis 17:1 When Avram was 99 years old Adonai appeared to Avram and said to him, “I am El Shaddai [God Almighty]. Walk in my presence and be pure-hearted. 2 I will make my covenant between me and you, and I will increase your numbers greatly.”

The Old Testament has many different names for God. These names tell us about God's character and work.
In our Bible verses today, God talked to Abraham. God told Abraham, "I am God All-Powerful" (verse 1b). The Hebrew name for God used in this verse is El Shaddai. Abraham witnessed God's power many times throughout his life. With God's power, Abraham and his wife, Sarah, were able to have a son and many descendents.
Abraham trusted God to take care of him and to keep His promises. So God blessed Abraham. We, too, need to trust God every day. We need to depend on His Word, the Bible, and believe that God can do things that people cannot do.
God is working in your life, too. Keep trusting Him and His words in the Bible. Remember that God is truly All-Powerful. And thank Him for the ways He will work in your life today.[Pascal Niyonsenga]
"Jesus answered, 'God can
do things that are not
possible for people
to do.'"
[Luke 18:27]
PRAYER: Dear God, I believe that You are All-Powerful. Thank You for Your promises and Your blessings to me. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Power Supply" Bible Reading: Philippians 4:10-13

Philippians 4:10 In union with the Lord I greatly rejoice that now, after this long time, you have let your concern for me express itself again. Of course, you were concerned for me all along, but you had no opportunity to express it. 11 Not that I am saying this to call attention to any need of mine; since, as far as I am concerned, I have learned to be content regardless of circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in want, and I know what it is to have more than enough — in everything and in every way I have learned the secret of being full and being hungry, of having abundance and being in need. 13 I can do all things through him who gives me power.

The clock in my bathroom started losing time. At first it was just a little behind. Then the second hand became stuck on one number and refused to move! I was happy to know that this problem had a simple solution - the clock needed a new battery.
As a Christian, our power supply is God. We need to stay connected to God so we can obey Him and be a good witness to others. But sometimes we allow things into our lives that block God's power. Maybe we neglect our prayer and Bible reading time. Or maybe we become influenced by our friends in the world.
Paul reminds us in our Bible verses for today that our strength does not come from ourselves. Our strength comes from God. He helped Paul to be satisfied with his circumstances in life. And He gave Paul courage to share the Good News with others.
Stay connected to God today. He will be with you and give you what you need.[Linda Lamb]
"Christ is the one who gives me the strength I need to do whatever I must do."[Philippians 4:13]
PRAYER:
Lord, You are our strength. Help me stay connected to You and Your Word. In Jesus' name. Amen.
