Weekly eNote from Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday, July 28, 2017 of The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown in Kansas City, Missouri, United States

Hi RezDowntowners,
Good morning Kansas City! I'm excited to be writing to you today as things are moving quickly on the construction site, and it is awesome! This week has been very active as construction crews began laying the foundation and pouring footings. I can't wait to get out there later this weekend to shoot another video update; be sure to stay tuned. In the meantime, make sure to stop by sometime this weekend to check out the progress yourself, or visit build.cor.org/downtown for the livestream, and pray.
Tomorrow, we kick off two weekends of live preaching downtown. I will lead us through a quick study on the Epistle of James. This short but very powerful letter was written by James, the brother of Jesus, and has a lot to offer in terms of understanding our faith and how we live it out in the world. This weekend I'll focus in specifically on the first and second chapters, looking at the effect our faith (belief) has upon our daily actions. I hope you'll join us as it will be a great weekend to be inspired to act. I am eager to be back in the pulpit at Resurrection Downtown! Also, given current worship attendance patterns, I am planning to preach live at our 1508 Grand location at 10:45am... please, consider joining me at Grand if you have yet to be able to worship there. Not only will it prove to be a great experience (including donuts), but this will also help us create more space at our 1522 McGee location!
I look forward to seeing you this weekend - be sure to invite friends and join us as we look literally at putting our faith to work! In the meantime, you'll find a variety of ways below to get connected over the next several weeks. Be sure to take a look...
Missions and Mountains:

Are You Ready to Play Fall Ball?! Be a part of RezDT Sporting! Registration is happening now for fall kickball and softball adult recreational leagues. Softball games are on Monday nights, Kickball games are on Thursday nights. Both sports are open to all skill levels. If you want to have fun meeting other folks in your community and representing RezDT, this opportunity is for you! Registration deadline is August 18, and games start August 31. Team dues are $50/player and include a t-shirt. (Partial scholarships available.) Don’t miss out! To register go to cor.org/downtown/getconnected or email Kenny.decoursey@cor.org.
VBC #3 at Wesley Heights UMC – Our last Vacation Bible Camp session of the summer is coming up August 5 at Wesley Heights UMC! If you haven’t had the chance yet to volunteer for one of our VBCs, or you’d like to sign up to serve again, we invite you to join us and end your summer with a joyful and fun-filled experience working with kids in our community. To register your kids to attend or to volunteer, email Sarah.Brischle@cor.org or visit cor.org/downtown/vbc.
Back to School Supply Drive – Wendell Phillips at Attucks Elementary’s 370 students will return to the classroom on August 14! Your donation of school supplies, incentive store items, books, and volunteer hours gives students a jump start into the new school year. Pick up empty bags from the sanctuary, fill them with items from our list, and return them to the church by August 6. Contact Pastor Patrick or Ginna Beckett at rezdtserve@cor.org with inquiries about more ways to get involved.
Have a great Friday! I am excited for this weekend in worship and can't wait to see where God leads us into the future.
Many blessings and God's Peace,
Scott
