Prayer Tip:

One of the things I try to strive for is to make sure my heart breaks for the things that break God’s heart. I try to protect my heart and make sure it doesn’t grow calloused to injustice, cruelty, inequality and suffering. Sometimes it is difficult because there are so many broken things around us that we become immune to noticing the hurt that is around us.
In 1 Corinthians Paul speaks to our spiritual gifts and tells us that each of us have been given a spiritual gift by the Holy Spirit. I believe that while God calls all of us to address the suffering in the world, each of us have a special niche that we are empowered to address. Some of us feel especially called to help people overcome addiction, others mental illness. Some people feel led to address hunger or homelessness in our community. The Holy Spirit can call us to move and serve in these special areas – this is how our Furnishings Ministry and Matthew’s Ministry got started. This is how we are able to have enough volunteers and donations to support food, school supply and blood drives.
This week, as we remember Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., I encourage you to pray and ask God for direction in ways you can help to make our world look more like the kingdom of God. Ask God to show you areas in which you can make small and large contributions that will make a positive impact.
Dear Lord,
You have blessed us with resources and gifts that we can use to bring your light to the world. Please help us to use our gifts wisely and for your glory.
In your name we pray,
Amen. (Ashly Cooley, Counseling & Support Ministries)
