Weekly eNote from Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday, 20 April 2018 of The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown in Kansas City, Missouri, United States

Greetings Resurrection Downtown!
I hope you are doing well this Friday morning. It has been a big week for the church and community. Yesterday I had the chance to take a tour of our new building, in progress, and it was awesome to see the amount of progress that has taken place. Things are starting to come together beautifully. When you come to worship this weekend you'll see that they have begun working on the sidewalks along Grand Blvd. and 16th Street, as well as around the building on the South and East sides. In addition to the exterior work, they have been working tirelessly to finish out the sanctuary, lobby, cafe and classroom spaces. I cannot wait to see the finished product in just a few short weeks. Remember to save the date and invite friends to our Grand Opening on the weekend of June 2nd and 3rd! This is going to be a great moment in the life of our church and city!
This weekend in worship, we'll be continuing our series by focusing on What Jesus Would Say about gun violence within schools and at the workplace. It will be an important message to hear. I hope you'll join us and given our recent worship attendance patterns, I want to encourage you, if not urge you to worship at either of our evening worship services (Saturdaynight at 5:10pm or Sunday at 5:00pm). Our morning services have become increasingly crowded and it would be great to be able to create space for more guests, and choosing to worship in the evening will help us tremendously! I'll look forward to seeing you this weekend at all of our services.
Things are getting really exciting in the city, and not just because of the building or the sermon series, but because of all the great opportunities to serve throughout the city...and this weekend is particularly exciting!
You can Join us for Serve Saturday tomorrow morning, April 21, 9 am at 1522 McGee for a morning of service #withKC out in the community! Invite family and friends, work on your goal to serve 18 hours in 2018 (#18in18) and plug in with our partner school or education ministry, our construction ministry, or with one of our other Serve partners around KC and internationally. This will be the best three hours of the week and a great way to get your hands dirty in the business of serving and changing the world! Email PastorPatrick@cor.org with questions!
Also, on Saturday afternoon, immediately following Serve Saturday, we'll be hosting a Mental Health First Aid Gathering – Join members of Resurrection Downtown staff tomorrow at noon, 1508 Grand, to learn some of the key steps to helping someone in a mental health crisis. Lunch will be provided ($5 donation welcome but not expected). Please register here to let us know you’re coming! Curious about what this is all about? Check out the Mental Health First Aid web site or contact PastorPatrick@cor.org with questions.
Lastly, in worship this weekend we'll be kicking off our Spring Donation Drive. When you clean out your closets this spring, don’t toss out those work clothes or baby items! Between Serve Saturdays on April 21st and May 19th, drop off your gently used donation items at 1522 McGee before or after worship. Visit cor.org/downtown/serve for more details, or email PastorPatrick@cor.org with your questions!
Finally, if you are interested in joining our community at Resurrection Downtown, please consider Coffee With the Pastors this Sunday. Do you consider Resurrection your church home and want to take the next step in your faith commitment? If so, join us April 22, 1:30 pm at 1522 McGee. Hear from our pastors about what it means to be a Methodist and the expectations for membership. You'll be able to say you joined when we were still worshiping in the McGee building! Registration is required and childcare is available. Please register online at cor.org/downtown/getconnected or email Shannon.Endicott@cor.org with questions!
I am excited for this weekend of service and worship and I am so looking forward to another powerful expression of God's Spirit as we move closer and closer to our Grand Opening. Have a great Friday!
With Grace, Peace and God's Holy Adventure,
Scott
