A week from Sunday is Pentecost (May 20th) and I can’t help but think of what the followers of Christ were doing leading up to Pentecost.
Acts 2:1-4 says,
When Pentecost Day arrived, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound from heaven like the howling of a fierce wind filled the entire house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be individual flames of fire alighting on each one of them. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages as the Spirit enabled them to speak.
I love the fact that they were all together in one place and I would like to assume they were spending time fellowshipping and especially praying. As they were gathered together they were overwhelmed by the Holy Spirit and began preaching the Good News!
Reading farther on in chapter 2 (verse 42) we see that the disciples still gather together. It says,
The believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, to the community, to their shared meals, and to their prayers.
There seems to be something significant about gathering together for fellowship, teaching, eating, and especially praying.
One theologian, Karl Barth once said,
To clasp the hands in prayer is the beginning of an uprising against the disorder of the world.
We want to clasp hands together in prayer for the 24 hours leading up to Pentecost Sunday. We want to spend time expectantly waiting and praying for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon us. We have 12 slots that still need filled. This can be by one person or multiple people. If you would like to sign up for one of the times below please email me back with the time (first come, first serve). If that time is already taken I will let you know what times are still open.
