Pastor Penny Ellwood's Enote for Friday, 15 June 2018 from The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Blue Springs in Blue Springs, Missouri, United States

Friday, June 15, 2018
Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs!
We got our son married last weekend and mom held it together to officiate. It was a joyful occasion. Here is one picture, but if you’d like to see more just ask. I’m happy to share!
Today is the third day of our Great Plains Annual Conference held in Wichita this year. This is the annual gathering of all the clergy and their lay representatives from the United Methodist churches in Kansas and Nebraska. As a campus of Resurrection, we are part of the Great Plains conference. Although, we share in the Missouri conference as well, based on our location.
Our Bishop acknowledged in his episcopal address that we face an uncertain year ahead. We do not know what the outcome will be of the 2019 Special Session of the General Conference in February devoted to human sexuality concerns in the denomination. Bishop Saenz encouraged each of us to “keep on adventuring, pressing on as a missionary church in a post-Christian culture focused on the mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world” and as we do so to ““be convicted, be calm, stay connected and stay the course.” I think this is good advice for us individually and as a church.
This weekend we're showing the love for dads with donuts for all the men of the congregation. Pastor Adam has a special Father's Day message as part of our "Jesus & Me" sermon series. He will take a look at how Jesus loved and welcomed children. This message is for everyone who was ever a child. I think that includes us all.
Don’t forget that tomorrow is a Serve Day. Come help us make a difference in our community as we help spruce up Whittier Elementary in Kansas City, MO tomorrow. If you can’t make it tomorrow with the Blue Springs crew, Bless the School runs through June 22, with several shift times available. You can sign up here – it's a great way to serve for small groups, neighbors and families with children 12 and up.
Invite your family and friends to join us for this Sunday.
