Weekly eNote from Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday, June 15, 2018 from The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown in  Kansas City, Missouri, United States
Greetings RezDowntowners,
It has been an amazing week at Resurrection Downtown. Our second full weekend of worship at 1601 Grand was another tremendous turnout. Thank you for joining us and thank you for inviting friends to experience this new house of worship in the heart of the city. On Tuesday, I had the opportunity to be on KCUR’s “Up to Date” radio show with Steve Kraske. The focus of his show was to share downtown development news, and our church was top on his list. It was awesome to be included in this kind of segment, reserved mainly for commercial and business development projects. If you didn’t hear the story, you can find it here.
As I shared with Steve on the show, part of the reason Resurrection Downtown has grown and the congregation has multiplied over the years is our willingness to love and live like Christ. Before we ever worshiped, we served. My hope is that as we continue building Christian community in the heart of this city, we will continue to serve and love others in the same way that Jesus first loved us. I firmly believe that we are called to embody the gospel! And this weekend we have three great opportunities to do just that.
The first opportunity, Vacation Bible Camp, happens tomorrow morning at Margaret Kemp Park, located across the street from restart Inc. (E. 10th St. & Harrison, KCMO). Please invite friends and join us on Saturday morning, June 16, from 9 am - 12 pm for a Vacation Bible Camp centered around TRUST. It will be a fun-filled day with games, snacks, story time, lunch, and SO MUCH MORE! We still need kids AND volunteers. To sign up, visit cor.org/downtown/vbc or email Katie.Ollenburger@cor.org!
The second opportunity to embody the gospel this weekend is through Serve Saturday, as we work with others this month to "Bless the School!" Join us tomorrow, June 16 at Whittier Elementary School (1012 Bales Ave., KCMO). If you want to serve with us this weekend at Bless the School, please register for a shift here.
Finally, this weekend in worship we continue our sermon series on Jesus and Me. We’ll talk specifically about Fathers, our Heavenly Father, and Jesus’ instructions for how we ought to care for and treat children. It will be a powerful weekend. Invite your dad and join us, or if you are a dad, invite your children! As always, since it is a holiday weekend, I’m happy to share that we’ll have a special treat for every guy in attendance, and trust me you won’t want to miss that!
There is a lot going on in the life of our church and I am grateful for each of you and your willingness to respond to God’s call to love one another the way that God loves us. I look forward to seeing you this weekend at VBC, Bless the School and of course, in worship at 1601 Grand Blvd!
With Grace, Peace and God's Holy Adventure,
Scott
